I find the electric incredibly inexpensive i have spent all summer in spain with my grandchildren and had aircon going 24/7 and could not believe how cheap it was when you add up all the expenses i find it  way cheaper than anywhere else, just saying.

Hi Johnboy,

We are in a situation of non residence but increasingly using our Spanish property, between all of us it will be occupied a number of months a year. Would you be able to advise where I can find more information on the feed in tariff please? First time I hear of that.

This said I find the current price a little higher than the UK tariff we currently have but widely offset by the savings on other costs, council tax being one to cite just that.

Thanks for the useful post.

Thank you Jim, I had already looked at it, very informative indeed.

I am on a low KW tariff so not a lot of margin to move on but may look into gas hob and possibly gas water heater, do you know of any particular regulations/restrictions for bottle gas in the area?

Thanks in advance

Jim we now have sold out property but last year we started getting really high bills from iberdrola when we were not there, luckily my husband is a builder and mentioned this to our electrician here in the UK, he said he has heard this before because in Spain they put the earth wire on the opposite side to us here in the UK so we were suffering from earth leakage.... He said when leaving for returning to the UK to switch ALL switches off on the board this should stop it.....yes it did.... one bill last year was 99 euros in the February and we don't use the property in the winter, now its just the standing charge of about 39 euros,  so earth leakage might be putting your bill up paying for electric that's  seeping away.

Just an update on my previous post re Solar. I have found a company that are installing in a 2.5KW system for 4000 Euros. Its a German company, use all the latest equipment and will setup all the certificates so you get your feed in etc. They speak perfect English too. Can send on the details if people need it.

There's no problem with gas installations; just a couple of things to be aware of.

When you have gas appliances installed you need an inspection and the issue of a boletín valid for five years to confirm everything is OK. It's a legal requirement, and also if you don't get one you could have problems if you ever have to make an insurance claim for a gas related problem.

If possible have an external vent for a water heater and an extractor hood for a fan, and/or fit a carbon monoxide detector.

Incidentally, I understand that the electricity supply is commonly called 'la luz' because it's too expensive for anything other than lighting.

Good morning.

I would just like to say, that you have given me excellent advice, you’ve always been so pleasant and knowledgeable. Can’t fault anything you say. We would pay a lot of money to ‘professionals ‘ that you give out for free.

Once again Jim thank you for all you do x
