Can anybody please advise me how to stop our electricity from constantly tripping whenever we try to use our electric oven or, grill? Even with all other appliances switched off it still happens and is extremely infuriating!!! Using our oven or, grill has become an impossibility.

Any advice or, suggestions would be most welcome,

Many, Many, Thanks In Anticipation Of Your Response.

Need more information.

What's tripping? The individual circuit breaker, the earth leakage breaker, the ICP if there is one (cut-off switch with a lead seal), or the meter itself.

What is your contracted power supply?

Have you only recently had a smart meter fitted?

Hi Jim

The oven was fitted when the house (our holiday home) was first built several years ago but it has hardly ever been used. Virtually as soon as it's switched on all the other switches on the mains panel in the house trip!!!

None of the other appliances i.e. washing machine, lighting, microwave, fridge/freezer, air conditioning, tv etc. etc. do this!!!

We do not have a smart meter & neither myself or, my husband have a clue as to what our contracted supply is infact, we don't understand what you mean by "contracted supply"!!!

Regards

Your contracted supply is the first item in the breakdown at the top of your bill, and will appear as either Potencia facturada or Capacity Invoiced. For a house I'd expect 5,75 kW, but if it's just a holiday home then you might be on a lower supply.

If all the circuit breakers and the earth leakage breaker trip, then the house wiring hasn't been done properly. That doesn't surprise me, as I had to do a lot of rewiring to make sure that each circuit was isolated from the others, and that a fault on one circuit wouldn't affect any of the others.

However, if you haven't recently had a smart meter fitted, and things were OK before, then I have to assume that the fault is with the oven - not just an earth leak, which would only trip the earth leakage breaker, but something more drastic involving a short.

As an aside, I'm surprised that you haven't got a smart meter yet, as we live out in the country and had one fitted a while ago. If one's fitted whilst you're not there, you'll know about it when you start getting bills monthly instead of two monthly.

Hi, I know this isn't a helpful reply but our electricity tripped all the time when we first moved in , especially if it rained which was scary! No particular thing set it off but it was always happening, to the point I was scared to turn on the kitchen lights because of the fizzing noise coming from the socket!! Finally found an English speaking Spanish electrician who thoroughly checked all the switches and wiring and we found sockets not connected, sockets connected to everything (!), sockets sitting too far off the wall because of the plastering so it was pulling on the wiring. The list was endless but we got there in the end. He also changed all our light bulbs to low energy and swapped our numerous spot lights for low energy leds so the house is a lot brighter! Can give you the electricians number but he's not totally reliable at turning up when he says he will so it might be a case of waiting around for him.

Hi, we had exactly the same problem when we moved in and were told it was because the oven had not been used for some time. Bought a new oven, no more problems.
