Hi to all you lucky people who live in Campoverde.

My wife and I hope to relocate within the next 12 months and currently live in France.

We are both 63 and would want to apply for residency as soon as we arrive.

What type of health insurance would we require and has anyone an idea of cost .

Would the insurance be a requirement to obtain residency

Thank you

Paul

Hi Paul,

We have just arrived in Spain from Australia.

We were told by our solicitor that private health cover is an absolute must for the first 2 years of residence here and is a prerequisite when applying for residencia and this is where it gets tricky. They will only accept your enrolment in the top cover available, we contacted Iberian Inurance Brokers in Rioja who gave us the best advice and estimate of premiums according to age and previous injury etc.

We signed up with ASSSA and had to pay a year in advance for our Residencia application which can be dropped down to a standard premium after a year.

Hope this helps

Warm Regards

My wife and I have recently set up our health insurance (for residency purposes).

We are aged 60 and 58.

Our total cost (for both of us) was 1400 Euros for the first year, increasing by around 10% per year for 3 years.

As per the previous response, we were required to pay the first year in advance. Thereafter, the payment can become monthly.

There were more expensive options (with lower co-pays). No pre-existing conditions are covered.

Our cover was arranged by Britannia Legals, on Avda del Pino in Campoverde (in amongst the shops and cafes, close to Plaza Florida). They were very helpful. They can also support you through the residency application process (they are doing this for us).

Apparently, after a year, and once residency has been obtained, it is possible to pay into the Spanish NHS (as an alternative), which does not proscribe pre-existing conditions.

Hi , thankyou Kelvin / Janice .

That's useful information . In France we currently pay 1100 euros just for our top - up

Insurance ,which only covers us for 30% of total cost.

I think given the fact that overall living costs  in Spain are lower than France we would be happy to pay up.

Thank again

Paul

Hi Maurauder,

If you are a state pensioner, you can apply for public healthcare in Spain via the S1 form and therefore would have no need for private medical insurance to get residency in Spain. Otherwise yes, you would have to prove the existence of private medical insurance (both, in & out patient treatments with no no co-payments/policy excess) paid for one year, along with proof of regular income to apply for residency in Spain.

After one year being resident, you'd be able to buy into the public health scheme, so called ocnvenio especial.

We can help you with a private medical insurance quote, please feel free to contact if interested.

Kind regards,

Alfonso

Hi everyone, my wife and I arrived in Campoverde two months ago and we too are now about to apply for residency.  I'm 60 and my wife is 52.  We keep hearing conflicting views about whether insurance is acceptable with or without contributions?!  Does it depend on where you apply for residency?  Do different offices have different views?  Also, we have been advised that any 'health insurance' arranged, must be for the 'top level of coverage' available.  Is that correct, given comments here imply otherwise?

Any comments would be appreicated.  Thank you.

Steve.

My wife (VivienneAnn) and I did our residency at Orihuela Police Station yesterday.

Our insurance was accepted, albeit that we have copay conditions.

Our Gestor (who attended with us) indicated that the Police are tightening up on this, and that non-copay policies are now expected. Although the Police at Orihuela were pragmatic, other Police Stations are apparently much stricter (Torrevieja was mentioned in this context).
