My car insurance is coming up for renewal so I decided to check out another insurance company for a price but discover that you have to give your existing company one month's notice before you can change companys and if you dont they can take you to court make you pay your renewal insurance so watch out for this trap if you want to change insurance company

The insurance company must advise in due time any changes of conditions which includes premiums etc. Usually you receive an email hiding such content. So cancel your policy at any time by simply susopending payment alleging lack of knowledge - the insurer must prove that any changes were made in such a way that they came to your knowledge - something impossible.
This is standard procedure for many common forms of insurance in Spain, motor, home etc. so it really shouldn't come as a surprise.
I'm sure for too many it will though!
