Hello there! We are a British couple (46/47 and 44/45) wishing to move to Pinar de Campoverde for the start of the school year in September 2018 when our children will be 9 and nearly 6. We have had a holiday home in the area for the last 2 years and now want to make a more permanent move especially for our children to learn Spanish and for all of us to enjoy the climate and more of an outdoor lifestyle. We have businesses in the UK we would continue to run remotely so are not dependent on earning an income in Spain although we would no doubt have to take residency if we were here more than 6 months a year. Obviously things are up in the air with Brexit but we have no problem getting private health insurance and if we could no longer attend a local Spanish school we would look to put our children into the private international school ELIS at Villamartin. Does anyone have any advice about:

- Renting in the area before we buy

- Good local Spanish schools & whether we might be accepted

- Best areas of PdC to look at properties where we would be onto faster roads more quickly (all important for that twice daily school run!)

- Social activities for people our age and whether there are many similarly aged children in the village

- Anything else we ought to think carefully about!

Many, many thanks in advance!

Emma & Mark

Hi Emma and Mark,

We are moving out to Campoverde in the next couple of months too from uk. We are buying out there. Our house sale in uk is going through as we speak. My daughter is 9 in August and our son is 3. Both have just got a place at the mediterraneo school in Pilar starting in September. This is an international school and has been recommended to us by many people in the village.

We looked to rent initially but there just wasn't anything decent in the village at all so we just took the plunge and brought a house.

Good luck

Marie

Hi Marie

We are also moving to the area in October and due to unforeseen circumstances we have to bring our 12 yr old nephew with us. Could you tell me the cost of schooling at the mediteraneo school.

Regards

Mark

HI Mark,

I believe you have to pay for the school books. Also if you need transport to and from Campoverde on the school bus you have to pay for that, which includes lunch. The bus picks up from the village at 8.15 and drops off at 5pm.

I am going to enrol my two on the 27/28 June when I go over. I will find out how much all this costs and will let you know as I don't know myself yet.

Enrolment has already started for September.

Regards

Marie

Many thanks for the reply. If you could that would be brilliant. We've kind of been thrown in at the deep end with our nephew but I'm hoping we can get it sorted

Regards

Mark

I will do.

You could also ring the guy at the town hall in a Campoverde he is very helpful his number is

0034 966 762 932

The enrolment process has already started so you would need to act quick to try and get him a place for this year.

Good luck!

Thanks that's great to know. Do you know if there's much emphasis on the kids learning Spanish at that school. My reservation about the international schools is that they are focussed on English for the local kids (which is great for them of course) but we'd like ours to learn Spanish :-)

Hi - something I forgot to ask was if anyone has any knowledge of the tax situation if you have a UK business but take Spanish residency. Would you pay your income tax in the UK or in Spain? We are self-employed with limited companies. Obviously we'd need to look into it in detail but in the meantime many thanks if anyone has any understanding of this. PS Hopefully those of us with young kids will be able to meet up and the kiddies can make local friends :-)

Hi,

I really don't know anything about that.

Might be worth talking to Brittania Legals in Campoverde.

Yes it would be good to meet up when you come over. We're In the same position with our two children and would like them to have some English friends to meet up with too.

Yes they give the English kids extra Spanish lessons. From what I've heard the Spanish kids learn Valencian and the English kids learn Spanish. The school  reassured us it wouldn't be a problem and they would soon learn. Hope this is true!
