Hello, my husband and I are hoping to move to Campoverde from the UK next year. I'm sure we will have lots of questions to drive you lovely people mad, especially about Brexit, but for now we are just trying to work out our budget.

We would dearly love a villa with private pool, but have been told swimming pool maintenance costs can be prohibitive, even if we maintain it ourselves.

What are peoples experience of this? Any rough ideas of monthly costs, I know it will vary with size etc

Many thanks in advance

Jane

80 Euros per month to have someone do it for you.

If you do it yourself, maybe 10 Euros per month for chemicals.

Morning Jane, if you do a swoop over Pinar and all other areas on google maps you will see pools everywhere, even in more modest properties. We barely touch our pool over the winter, leaving it uncovered with the odd hoover, mainly after high winds, and we have the pump running for an hour every night. In the summer the pump runs for longer plus the cost of the chemicals.
If you are able to satisfy the financial requirements for Residency post Brexit transition, you will easily be able to afford it.

Cheryl's post reminded me to add ...

The pool pump usually consumes around 1.4kw. This doesn't sound like much, but if you run it for 8 hours per day (in summer) that cost adds up.

So budget 35c per hour (on peak) and 18c per hour (off peak).

If you buy a pool robot, you can reduce these costs.

The pump should cycle the entire pool water three times per 24 hours during the periods of use so subject to size that should be around 6 - 8 hours running in the warmer months

i would suggest €40 per month during peak times for electricity

€10 per month for chemical (if you pump less you will need more chemical)

€70 per month for a pool guy if you want one

Filter granules €200+ every five years

without a heater six to eight months useage is the most youe likely to get as the water will be cold.

Serious maintenance like regrout €2000 but that may be once in 20 yrs

Hope that helps

Not sure how you ended up at that huge amount, is your pool the size of a football pitch?,
