Hi my husband and I bought a place 4 years ago and have not yet applied for residencia. I am in the uk more than spain as I have a large family, many children and grandchildren and a few medical issues that I am grateful for the NHS. We are both early retirees so do not get a state pension. My question to you all is: can only one of you get residencia or do we both have to? I dont want to but my husband does! Help. Can anyone give me a GOOD reason to become residents other than 'you should'

Can't advise on reasons to take up residency or not, that's something only you can weigh up and decide, but for residency itself that's individual so it's perfectly possible for just one of you to do it.

My wife and I posed this question to a gestor when we started the residency process.

The answer was yes.

But the practicalities (brought into sharp relief by Brexit) mean that we wouldn't want to.

Additionally, there would be some tax complications with one of you being Resident, and one not.

We both applied for and were granted Residency.

Also, apparently you can’t have a joint bank account in Spain if one of those people has residency and the other doesn’t. It’s all to do with tax ..
