If you think about it logically, those of us Brits who are already legally in Spain, paying our income taxes etc., are welcoming of more Brits. This keeps the "Brit economy" moving, protects house prices, etc.
Personally, I have concerns that the increasing difficulties encountered by Brits in obtaining Residency/Visa/healthcare will reduce the supply of new Brits arriving. This is a British own-goal, and it will hit the wider economy here - estate agents, solicitors, gestors, tradesmen, hospitality - all of whom contribute to society through their taxes. It remains to be seen if this shortfall will be made up by increasing numbers of Germans, Norwegians etc., and Covid isn't helping (although I hope that this will be a short-term problem).
So yes .... we want you here. I wish you well in your efforts.
Much bad commentary comes from 3 things
- Brexit is forcing many Brits back home, or to get legal under duress/with resentment (Covid, coupled with intransigent Brexit dates has made/is making this difficult)
- some people are criticising the EU for enforcing the very rules with Britain (now a third country) that Britain helped to formulate when it was an EU member.
- Brits with holiday homes in Spain face reduced flexibility in using them (and, of course, with the current Covid situation they can't travel here at all).
Good luck with your jab .... I am jealous ;-)
