I wish to drive to Pinoso in November from Ireland.... My intention is to leave the vehicle on site and at a later date Register the same vehicle in Spain. How is best to insure the vehicle in Spain whilst on R.O.I. Registration Plates if possible at all.

Regards

Ray

To register a vehicle it is essential to proove permanent residence (certificado de empadronamiento) and have a NIE (tax ID). W/o these documents you can drive on your homeland plates 180 days p.a. However there is no way to have a written evidence - I drove on mine 4 years.

For anything to do with driving in Spain have a look at the N332 website.   It is run in collaboration with officers of the Guardia Civil for English speaking people and has an English version of the Spanish equivalent of the Highway Code on it.   The N332 also has a Facebook page.

Hi Ray. My family and I are moving from Ireland to Pinoso permanently In October. We have cats so we are driving over bringing our RHD with us so your question was very helpful. It’s great to know so many people are considering pinoso as that was my biggest fear. Moving and being isolated! We still have a lot to sort out when we get there so I’m expecting the next few months to be manic! Work will be the big thing for my two sons and one of their partners although she is a beautician and has already got work. I’m looking forward to this new way of life and settling into what seems to be a wonderful town with great community spirit. See you all soon. Xx
