Hi all, I am very excited... in three weeks my partner and I, with our two cats are moving to Pinoso.  We have purchased a house in Paredon and will be permanently living there.  We are planning to renovate the house whilst living in it so first of all has anyone done a similar thing?  Any tips or advice?  We will be bringing over our beloved car all ready to be registered in Spain but we will need another vehicle to help with the renovation, like a van or preferably a large estate car.  Where is there locally that sells second hand, reliable cars.  I know that there is a large builders merchant in Pinoso.  How good is it?  Will they deliver large quantities?

We so want to become part of the local community and get to know people as soon as possible, where should we go?

And finally, does anyone know a good builder and architect?

Many thanks and I look forward to seeing you all soon.

Hi Good luck with the move

Sorry dont know too much about the builders merchants in Pinoso as I am in Agost about minuets away

We moved over 13 years ago and renovated our house while living in it -- great fun !!

It has been interesting learning about Spanish building materials and methods , quite different from the Uk , with little use of wood and plaster board

I am sure you will enjoy the challenge and experiance

Cheers Tony

Hi Grant

Floors and roof decks are made of beam and blocks , also flat long bricks called bardos are used as wood planks

Wood is quite expensive , plaster board is available in some places but not common , steel profiles are used as the stud work

bricks are different too , they are generally ceramic hollow ones , lightweight blocks ate not used mainly hollow concrete ones

You will get used to it !

Cheers Tony

Hi,

Just doing some homework regarding building and renovation.  I understand that there are two types of licence that need to be applied for to undergo work.  I am expecting to install a new septic tank and re-plumb the whole house.  Electric needs to be updated.  What do I actually need to do for the permissions?  Are there local trades people that can do this for me?  I have read that it can take up to 10 weeks to be granted permission - is this permission really needed to commence work?

Thanks

Grant Wicks

Hi Grant

We have used Diegos builders merchants  in Pinoso for last 2 years and they are great and no problem about delivering. Most of the English go to the Manor House or in Pinoso itself I can recommend Refuegios which is run by a lovely English couple and is a meeting place for the expats.

Good luck with the move

Hi Grant,

We live in Agost - we moved to Spain 2 1/2 yrs ago. We used a local company in Pinoso called S2M. They did extensive work on the house & later they redid our kitchen. All works were completed to a high standard with good quality materials. The firm is owned & run by 2 Spanish guys who both speak fairly good English, aided by an English woman Carol. We found them to be very helpful & pleasant to deal with. They aren't the cheapest, but the quality of work is excellent. All the workers were reliable & left the house in a clean state at the end of each day. If you want their contact details, PM me.

Regards, Nicky

There is A Facebook page called Pinoso buying selling helping where you can get all the info you need from the group members  it is also a great way of making friends  Pinoso is a great place to be but don't just stick with the expats, the locals are very friendly. There is a company called S2M who are excellent with helping with any building works and town hall licences
