Is there a way to check the water bill is correct? Can't see a water meter on the property or anywhere near it. The bills to date have been high.

If the bills show a metered reading, then there must be a water meter somewhere. Ours is outside the property in the lane beside us, under a small iron cover.

Thanks for this - I'll check there is a metal covered area so this could be it.

Hi Bill, which water company are you with?

Hi Gabriel,
I'm with S.A.T.N.
Since my last post I've found the water meter.
My last bill was significantly lower but still over €200.
Cheers
Bill

What type of water is it? Drinking or irrigation? Any idea where S.A.T.N. is based? Cheers

Hi Gabriel,
The water is not drinking water - its for irrigation.
I've checked the SATN bill and they are in Santa Barbara 3505.
Hope this helps.

hi Bill
That's SAT Ubeda! Same as mine. Santa Barbara is the street I think. He operates it out of his house there - just a crumby little desk in his living room as I recall. Same guy who charged me 149% interest on 'bills' I had that I wasn't aware of. The bills weren't for water usage, since I don't have any pipework connected to the meter. They were the standing charge just for having the water company. My lawyer in Pinoso didn't make me aware that I'd have any bills connected with my plot whilst it wasn't in use, so the bills mounted up. No amount of reasoning with the guy at the SAT made any difference (via three separate translators) and he just kept adding interest until I paid it. He's ignored every email I've sent him ever since and will only communicate with the lawyer. It's all kind of put a damper on my original excitement about the possibility of moving out there one day.
I just wonder what the bills would be like if I actually started using water. I'd get rid of SAT Ubeda in a second if I could, but it would no doubt reduce the value of the land (when I'm not even sure if I'm keeping it for the duration) and there would be a reconnection fee - he tells me - of over 2000 euros if I wanted it back. So I have to put up with his BS in the meantime.

Thanks for this Gabriel.
I'm not sure it's the same company but hope it isn't!! May be the reason why my bills have been so high!!
My bank organised this arrangement and I guess it's the only company I can deal with for the property unless Spain has similar rules around changing utility suppliers as the U.K.

Hi Bill
I'm pretty sure it is Sat 3.505 Santa Barbara. Hope I'm wrong. His initials are J.A. (don't want to mention his name on the forum but I can send you an email if you want to know. It won't lower your bills however!)
It would be good if it were possible to swap suppliers but I have a feeling it isn't going to be that easy if my experience of other services in Spain are anything to go by (it's all been uphill, but maybe I've just been unlucky). If you find anything out I'd be grateful if you could let me know.
