Snapping dog

I got a young dog from a rescue centre 9 days ago. She’s around 18 months old and normally very friendly. But sometimes when we pet her she snaps at us and puts her teeth on us. she’s too quick for us to get our hand away. Also she strains on the lead to get to other dogs. Sometimes to be friendly and sometimes not. She had been in the rescue centre for 5 months but her history is unknown.

Does anyone know of a professional dog trainer here that could take care of this.

We go back to the uk in 4 weeks time.

She's a dog behaviourist and trainer, and she's fantastic. Our Eddie is a rescue dog and we did a 4 week training course with Angela; she does one to one training as well.

So nice your first thought isnt to just give up Mac.. may you have lots of of years of happiness with her..

Hi. Thanks for recommending Angela.

We met her and had a one to one with her and our dog. What a revelation. We had a dog for 18 years before and thought that we knew quite a lot about dogs.

Angela was amazing. She had Roxy behaving and obeying commands very easily. She also recommended that we follow certain behaviours ourselves to have a happy friendly dog.
As going back to Scotland in 3 weeks time we can’t join in Angela’s classes but we will be in Spain again next winter and will definitely enrol Roxy when we arrive back.

Agreed. One of my dogs is a rescue, he's got his issues, not least being in need of a €3k operation when we got him, we suspected it so got insurance in place before getting a professional diagnosis. Due to the nature of them being rescues many of these dogs haven't had a good start. I've seen so many who just give up at the first sign of issues, so would like to join in the congrates for sticking with her.
