Hi Everyone

I've just arrived to find my house very cold. I'm alone but wanted to sleep in sitting room as it's warmer. My daughter came in November. She told me it's easy to open it by pulling a bar but I can't manage to do it. I'm hoping the photo prints but posting this on the off chance someone has the same sofa.

Thanks for your help.

Julie

Hi, I don't have the same sofa but most of them open in a similar way. With the seat cushions removed lift the black cover and look at the front of the seat where the cushions were. Locate a metal bar and lift it up and out at the same time. You can then unfold the bed outwards towards yourself. Hope this helps.

Hi Academical

Thanks very much for your help especially as the photo didn't upload. I was still unable to do it though. However I brought the divan bed into the front room and put it in front of the fan heater. When I stand up it feels quite warm. I feel these small quad villas weren't built for cold weather! Is it always like this in March? I've enjoyed being here in winter months both January and November.  In my opinion the worst months in the UK and never felt this cold. One reason I bought this house was to avoid cold damp weather in the UK! It's lovely there at present lol

Thanks again for your help.

Spanish houses aren’t built to retain heat, so unfortunately as the winter drags on the houses become colder and colder. So many tiled surfaces also make things cooler.

In normal winters you’ll find that it’s far warmer sitting outside  than in a cold house, but it’s not possible to do that at the moment because of the wind and rain.

If your windows don’t face the right direction to let in winter sunshine then keep your shutters down, this will help keep the warmth in, especially if you’ve got draughty metal windows and a nice big thick rug on the floor will make a huge difference. Once the rain goes away, spend as much time during the day outdoors, then when the temperature drops go inside just wrap yourself up in a nice big fleecy throw and you’ll be lovely and cosy. Slipper socks are ideal for keeping your feet toasty and I’ve got a snuddie I wear to keep me warm whilst I’m reading.

If you’re cold of a night invest in brushed cotton bedding, it’s so much warmer than cotton bedding.

In a couple of months you’ll be asking the opposite question of how to keep cool.

Hi Julie

At times like this, my missus swears by her electric blanket - and they're not expensive to use.

Cheers

If you don't have central heating the best way to heat is a butano heater.

Called in Spanish "estufa de butano".

Hi,

A electric blanket and a gas fire on wheels will keep you warm

Get yourself organised. Summer in Spain makes people believe that Spain is like that all the time. It isn’t. The Spanish dress in winter clothes while we waltz about in light weight cotton. NO USE. You will have to invest in woollens  don’t consider anything less or you’ll never warm up. Electric blanket is vital. A good quality duvet and an extra throw. If you don’t have aircon, get it installed immediately. You’ll have it for those ghastly hot summer nights and you can use it as a Heater on those ghastly cold nights that you are referring to. If you don’t want to install aircon, get a wall heater put into your bedroom and your bathroom. Keep yourself warm at all costs. Remember, you’re not using oil or gas like the U.K. so you must have some way of keeping warm.

I hate to be rude but there’s no comfort in a pull out bedsettee. It’s ok for young people on holiday but no good for us. Get your bedroom sorted and stop allowing yourself to be cold. if your own mattress isn’t a heavy one, put a good warm blanket under your mattress protector to stop cold air coming through the springs. Now, put your new quality electric blanket on. Buy one that allows for all night use   Pay a little more snd you will benefit   Wear wool socks in bed. Again, wool is a good natural fibre snd if it can keep a sheep warm whilst outside in the snow, it’ll keep you warm too. Cotton will never, ever keep you warm. It’s perfect for hot sweaty days where it can absorb perspiration   No good when you need heat.
We come out in the winter snd our house is never as cold as your’s sounds. Again, buy some big floor rugs. Cosy snd warm underfoot and can be rolled up in the summer and stored behind your settee or wherever.  You need these either side of your bed too.

Once you’ve done all this, you are ready to live comfortably in your lovely house in Spain. Enjoy.
