Hi, can someone please clear this up for me.

We have had a new bathroom fitted and asked for underfloor heating as we had in the uk.

Our Spanish builder has told us this is not possible as it's dangerous and never done in Spain. Is this correct?

As there are various companies in the Costa Blanca on google offering underfloor heating in bathrooms, I'd guess it is not something your builder has any experience of.

Thanks, I thought it was strange as its so common back in the uk, but he was adament it is never used in Spain I almost believed him but we have had so many other problems with the job he's done that I thought I'd better check.

Hi K1,

If the Electric underfloor heating is installed to the manufacturers instructions and wired correctly, and your household Electrics are up to modern standards , then I cannot see how it could be termed dangerous by your Spanish Builder.

Electrical Regulations in the U.K. are much more onerous ,in terms of compliance  with Electrical Safety , especially in Bath and Shower rooms and , as you say, underfloor heating is certainly commonplace and completely within the Regs.

To highlight this compare the amount of power sockets you see in UK bathrooms, do you see any ?  Now compare it to Spanish bathrooms, Yep you see them and usually right next to the sink too, which that Spanish builder would be more than  happy to install

I suspect you've got one of the type of tradesman who once hung a picture on a wall 5 years ago and now calls himself a builder .

What your asking exceeds his skill level so he is soft soaping you with a lie to cover his incompetence

Thanks all, I suspected this was the case but he was so convincing and was adamant that they never ever install this in Spain, he was incredulous at the very idea. 😳He also told us that  he couldn't move the toilet to where we wanted it wasn't possible as there was a concrete post under the floor. Now the toilet is vey close to the wall and looks awful. Unfortunately we were in the UK when the work was done so couldn't supervise it. He wasn't cheap either.

Actually sockets in U.K. bathrooms have been legal for at least two years probably longer.

Hi Richard, I am aware of current UK regs. I did not state they were not. I actually asked do you see any.  It is very rare to see any and certainly not next to a sink and that is a fact ,Not unless you have a very large bathroom as sockets cant be within 3 metres of a bath .
