Hi just wanted to ask about how to pay a tax without our solicitor. We bought out property nearly 3 years ago we are non residents and we don't let our holiday home out. Our solicitor has sent us a bill for the last 2 years for €18.02 per year each and charged us €100 for this so €200 up to now, it is for a Suma of some sort but I would like to pay this myself and save €100 if I can, any ideas. Thank you for any help.

Hi Jann,

Any SUMA bills, i.e. IBI (Council tax), Basura (rubbish, if it isn't included in your water bill) and car tax (if applicable) can be paid online at www.suma.es.  You'll need the reference number from your bill, so ask your lawyer for copies.  You can also request copies online from SUMA.  If you prefer not to have to think about it, next time you're in Spain, visit your bank or local SUMA office and set up a direct debit to pay these Bill's.

For non-resident tax, I would also recommend www.spanishtaxforms.co.uk although the company that Jim recommends, Angar, is even cheaper.

You certainly don't need to be paying your lawyer inflated fees to do these things for you.

Kind regards,

Kim
