I have been with this Insurance company for years.  I am looking to change and 'phoned them to cancel.  Their response was "We will take off 50% as you are a loyal customer".  The reason I'm looking elsewhere is because of the bad reviews this company has. I can add another one:

They sent me an email (in Spanish) which I have to print, sign and either fax it or post it to them.  I chose the option of posting it with proof of delivery (which cost £6).  In their letter they explained if they didn't receive my signed paper within 30 days, they would assume I still wanted to stay with them and would automatically take my money!  (Even though I told them I don't want their insurance). Having read what other people have said about cancelling, I don't hold out much hope.....

Do not use them.

I have made sure they get the signature within the 30 days, but looking at other reviews, they still took their money.  What really put me off was the fact that they immediately offered me a 50% discount.  I suppose they can do this when they don't pay out on many claims!

Thank you for your comment anyway as I wouldn't have known had I not had the email from them about the 30 days.

I had the same experience; when I told them I wasn't going to renew the policy they offered a reduction of 50%! I confirmed on the phone, then sent an email telling them the same and to cover myself sent a recorded delivery letter confirming I would not be renewing. I gave them 2 months notice and didn't have any problems with them after that. Not sure whether we will renew the car insurance because we have always had good service when we have had a claim.

That is correct. According to spanish insurance law 20/2015 and after having modified art. 22 of law 50/1980, since January 1st 2016, a notice period of at least ONE month before expiry date is sufficient to cancel any insurance policy in Spain. The cancellation should be in writing and whether by burofax or registered mail (with copy of passport).

The TWO months deadline is still held and applies to the companies/providers, if they would decide not to renew the insurance (e.g. high claim rate). However, this 'new' circumstance is identified in the 'general conditions booklet' of the insurance, those who have contracted before 1/1/16 can request an updated book, if not already provided by the company.
