Afternoon, in an effort to move away from Sabadell bank charges myself and my wife opened a Revolut Joint bank account.

We then made a variety of appointments notifying our providers of the new bank account details which they all update however, we seem to be having some issues with the account having a GB IBAN.

For instance, our broadband provider is Ole, they recently contacted to us advising that they had attempted to withdraw the first monthly payment since the change and had not been successful in attaining the payment. We contacted Revolut who advised that Ole had made no attempt to withdraw funds and that the issue was Ole’s end. Upon enquiring with Ole they forwarded a mandate requesting that I sign and send to Revolut, which we did.

The response from Revolut was that they did not need a document of this nature and did not have resources to monitor or manage the paperwork.

At this point I’m at a bit of a loss as to what to do.

Has anyone else experienced difficulties of this nature that they were able to successfully navigate, I’d like to stick with Revolut if possible.

Thanks in advance of any responses to this.

I too would like to leave Sabadell but worried of problems with direct debits not being paid, I’ve seen electric meters being removed! I’ll read responses with interest x

Hi

Amongst people on this forum, Wise is far more popular. Wise give you a Belgian (so EU) IBAN which is readily accepted by utility companies etc.

The snags are 1) they do not have a banking license and 2) they don't support joint accounts. In practice, if you're only trying to pay direct debits and spend using your card, those snags don't greatly matter.

My self and my missus use Wise all the time!

Cheers

Steve

Don’t be worried, we smoothly moved to BBVA this week taking all our DD with us with no problems. I’m pleased to see the back of Sabadell. The robbing bastards !!!! 🤬

Simply open a euro account inside your existing Revolut app. I have a Euro (Irish) as main account and a GB IBAN to get paid my UK pension.  I pay all my Spanish DD from the Euro account.

Only one company ever said they had an issue, a small company, I know the issue is something he’s doing wrong, because I’ve paid Spanish bills with it for nearly 10 years, he wouldn’t back down, needed to be ‘not wrong’ so he lost that business.

We closed our Sabadell account and moved all our DD's to my husband's Revolut Account (that's cause we've not long set up a joint Revolt account). As LinPlant said, open a € account within your existing Revolut account and set up DD's from there. We recently got Ole installed and set up their DD with no issues at all. We've had absolutely no issues with all our DD's coming from the € Revolut account and delighted to be saving 160€ a year by not paying Sabadell fees!

G’day,

if you have a Spanish address that you can use, you can open a Revolut Spanish Joint Bank A/C

We have been using Revolut Spain joint A/C for years - no problems

They have an address in Madrid Spain

That maybe is the problem you are encountering with using Revolut UK to pay direct debits.

Not necessary, you can open several different accounts in Revolut, in the same app, in different currencies, no matter where you live.

To answer and correct LinPlant,

I never stated anything about different currencies in my earlier post and nor did the original poster.

The issue that the “original poster” advised was a problem having a direct debit taken from a “UK Based Joint Revolut A/C”, I advised to open a Joint Revolut A/C based in Spain which definitely eradicates any problems with direct debits taken for Spanish businesses.

..and I’m saying, there’s no need for a separate Revolut account, in a country you might not live in, because it’s possible to have one (which legally should be in the county in which you pay tax, not where you happen to own a house) and just add different currency accounts. Which, since they already have a £ account, seems to probably, or at least potentially, suit their purposes.
