Hi Guys ,

Don’t know if your suffering the blatant abuse of clients money as I have experienced with Sabadell player Flamenca ( next to Rockys)

We banked with Sabadell for last three years but the last 12months have been like fighting off a mugger.

Apart from me cancelling there worthless home insurance two month before renewal and getting a stamped letter of cancellation ( all done by book ) two months on they still took the premium out of our account , then after a further two months of branch visits complaining about the theft they finally refunded the money as if doing me a favour Hopping that drew a line under there misbehaving! Oh no this week I transferred part of my pension via currency direct as have done for three years - guess what they now want commission fee on euros paid into your account from currency direct or any British iBan ?
they refused to refund as it’s from a British company but here’s the rub

Currency direct have been totally professional and transparent informed me they will refund this absurd no notice charge as money is from European bank account 🤔don’t know what’s going on at Sabadell Playa Flamenca but there answers to me as if it’s our fault because of BREXIT no mention of the withdrawal agreement with rights written in ??

Hope no one else is having this isue as appreciate  the finesse of living on a pension in Spain .

Very interesting, we had a call from our bank today 'Caixa', and they want scanned copies of our TIE cards (They have copies as we have a residents bank account)

Plus details with documentation of any UK payments received (pension payments)

The manager stated that it was just routine however did say that the bank was auditing all UK owned accounts.

I did wonder if maybe there was going to be a charge levied on the incoming UK payments, especially in the light of the charges going on export purchases from UK to EU via ebay/amazon and like. Get used to using amazon.es !

Maybe others may have similar stories ?

Very interesting ,I do think we the legal ex pats are being farmed for cash , despite our rights under withdrawal agreement the banks and utilities have jumped on the opportunity to raise a few euros .

Do hope enough retirees stand up to this abuse , I had no notice from the bank about any of this , when asked they refer to there conditions that they can do what they want oh and it’s Brexits fault My A!!!

Wish you well but do check with your bank daily

When I informed my Spanish bank I had received my residency, they invited me in and changed my non resident account to a resident pension account, I had all necessities with me, but was informed all they and I had to supply was my new T.I.E card, no other I.D was needed, I have my private pension paid direct from the uk through my pension provider who instruct Western Union Business Solutions to pay into my nominated account, they have a Belgium Iban, so no charges are payable. To me I find the T.I.E card very useful to have, especially for updating Suma payments, obtaining my bus pass and recently changing electricity contracts, theses processes were done so easily and as my Spanish is not to good, all seemed a bit more easier.

Hi Tango99,

There have been lots of similar examples on the forum in the last couple of weeks.  This thread discusses the options for ditching Sabadell, although much depends on whether you're resident or non-resident:

Bank charges

Kind regards,

I dont know what all the fuss is about. There were threads from virtually 2nd January on this forum where it was pointed out that to avoid bank commissions on Sterling transfers you need to use Transferwise (or similar) who change your sterling into euros and make a euro to euro transfer. Simple.

It just seems that some people look for any opportunity to knock Spain, Spanish Banks and the EU for something that the BRITISH decided to do!

It's tiresome, and it's beginning to spoil what was once a good forum.

It certainly isn’t my intention to knock anything about Spain  I live here. Am legal resident and love it.  I was merely pointing out that I have been in receipt of a pension payment since being here with no problems with the transfer through a company which my pension provider uses. Not my choice. And now I am going to be charged for the privilege.  It is what it is and I accept this I am just giving people information about potential changes coming.

I was replying to the original post, Tango99, I should have made that clearer.
