I have an android box and have kodi installed. I also installed Film On TV from Google play and I can watch most UK TV channels from there.

Hi

Basic Android whether it be Kodi or Apps is as people say hit and miss because its all free but unreliable.

IPTV is altogether different you are paying for a service, an illegal service none the less I advertise here on the right hand side panel the systems I have are reliable 1 I have had for 3 years, 1 for 2 years with many clients. Will it go off YES if SKY etc can can find it that is the same for anything out there.   This is what you can get via IPTV and more.  https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC7KdYmP2z6fYnVEIgYT79AA/videos

I am legal but I sell illegal products I try always to tell the truth that's why I have lasted 16 years not 3 months like most of them out here.

Regards

Pete

How much would it cost to have my fire stick updated and have the ability to view British TV?

As always with IPTV - lots of options and opinions. Having worked for a legal telecomms company for 11 years and dealing with IPTV for nearly 5 now, seen a lot of systems and services.

We also deal with large communities with plenty of non technically minded clients - so are very cautious about hardware and services offered,

As with all of these things, you will be told different stories - depending on who offering or selling!

Below is my opinion, based on 4-5 years feedback of IPTV.

Android / Kodi / XBMC / Hacked Android sticks.

Cheap, too much variation on hardware. Issues in the main lie with Kodi and the indie apps - not stable, free apps pulled off the shop, clunky & technical interface, no singular operating system, continual updates and maintenance needed - just a pain. As a secondary device or someone with technical ability/patience, then maybe - for someone just wanting simple or stable - best avoided.

In 10+ years of offering IT support, I have NEVER seen any devices where people need so much help or support, often apps not working & just no end of issues. As a company, we stopped recommending such devices for the 'general public' as most we dealt with over the years - started the same as most 'give us the cheapest' - we explained free IPTV is not same as free satellite - a whole different ballgame in use. Kodi and those type of services can be set up by someone fairly easily, but continual issues with stability and technical use - I think if not all our customers have moved away from this type of hardware, 95%+ probably have.

The other main issue, it the 'promises' made by some suppliers of this hardware. Many individuals, with half a brain, wake up one day and decide as they have their own Kodi/Android box, they'll learn how to set them up themselves and sell locally - no experience, not legal workers and really heading for a train wreck in terms of 'long term service'. We have email after email of 'can we use this box for another service', from frustrated people who have been sold a product, which worked for a week or two, before issues start. If you get promised 'every last football game' for free chances are you are dealing with a cowboy / cowboy firm. Sell the dream, not the reality!

HOW CAN YOU GUARANTEE A SERVICE THAT IS FREE & UNMONITORED? Satellite is different, we have Freesat spillover from the UK, so as long as the signal is there - stable, no reliance on the internet and good quality picture free - but this does not cover premium content.

Kodi/Android - use apps/scrapers which literally scrape the internet for the free streams - so if you have a sports app and want to watch football on a Saturday afternoon, the apps can be set up for this. The issues are as the servers providing access freely are unmonitored, you simply  have no guarantee of service, nor can anyone promise you as such. What usually happens, during a live event, too many people hop on servers and you end up losing the picture or having general problems - lack of stability. What is even more laughable is people selling these services with promises of everything, which is nonsense - as you cannot promise something you don't own, monitor or have no control over!

Amazon sticks are fine, if used for Amazon ecosystem, hack a stick and use it for Android / Kodi and it has the same potential issues as the Android boxes. Also Amazon has contiually stated they do not want this type of sideloaded software on their device and will seek to block their sticks (easier said than done - but warned).

For stable internet TV, the only real option is to pay a fee, as hosting costs and any company offering this has to pay these type fees. Good stable FREE iptv does not exist & any time I have been told otherwise it has simply not been true - there seemed to be a blind level of acceptance for what is a pretty poor and frustrating experience - because the content was free. However after a few times of trying to watch something and then suffering the frustration of continual interruptions - after a time, people accept if you want a decent service, then chances are you will need to pay for it!
