Hopefully, coming over to Spain on the 10th June🤞 Do you have to replace your mask between taking a drink? Just trying to get an idea of what to expect.

Thanks

I think that is the 'official' rule but it's not enforced. While you are sitting at your table you can remove your mask but if you go to the toilet you must wear the mask.

You have the choice to remove your mask when you sit. If you get up for whatever reason you are expected to put your mask on. You must wear a mask when walking about unless it's for exercise. I don't know if anybody can give examples of police interaction regarding this but I have not heard of people being fined. It is just expected behaviour.

The police here in Benidorm will certainly challenge anyone who is not wearing a mask in a public area. I've seen it happen.

No. The rule reads that way but it’s just impractical so doesn’t happen. If you get up to go bathroom or take a call away from the table , you need to stick it back on.

The local police drive by one of my regular watering holes every day. They look but not seen anyone “pulled up” . In fact , just last week , I saw them pull up, one get out  , before remembering to put his mask in place. We are all human after all.

Hi Kaz45,

When you say someone is exempt, I assume you mean exempt in their own country of residence and that's where the lanyard was issued?  Unless they have an official translation, I doubt you'd get much sympathy from the Spanish police.

Regarding the OP, other members have already given the correct advice.  You enter an establishment wearing a mask, place your drink and food order to the waiter, then you remove the mask when your order arrives.  If you need to leave your table at any time during the course of your meal and when leaving the establishment, you must put your mask back on.

Kind regards,

Kim
