When the State of Alarm ends today, how many of your community pools are opening? We have yet to hear from our Administrators what we must do to comply with any rules. They told us that under Phase 3 the same restrictions applied. I am hearing of many pools that are already open, albeit with max 75% occupancy and with regular cleaning, which I would be able to do myself. The actual pool is cleaned professionally three times a week, and we can take care of everything else to keep the area clean. I am just afraid to risk any fines for the community. It would be good to hear what measures are being used by others. Thank you.

Hi,

I think it depends on the urbanisation. On ours in Los dolses we have been open for two weeks after consultation with the administrators and liason with the urbanisation committee. We have one only of our 3 pools open, it has a brand new filter system which means the pool itself after a main clean, doesn't require any additional cleaning above the normal daily maintenance  The area surrounding the pool is cleaned twice a day at set times by a member of the urbanisation and once a day professionally (every morning). We can have a capacity of 30% although under phase 3 that can now be extended but hasn't been as yet. Luckily we NEVER have 30% capacity in the pools. We open the usage of the  pool at set times each day, so folk can use it between 10 and 1m between 2 and 5 and from 6 to closing at 10..We are not allowed to use the poolside showers..Sorry that's long winded...hope its helpful to point out what 'could' be done..

I suspect that not many will be open as yet due to the strict rules and regulations in force, one of which is that only 75% capacity is allowed (who is going to police that?).

Thanks Nicola. I read the bulletin on the Comunidad Madrid website today. They have gone from Phase 2 straight to New Normal. It says that private pools and municipal pools are open at 50% capacity but from 6th July there will be no limit on numbers, providing the 1.5m distancing is observed. Valencia has announced that most of Phase 3 rules are still in place! However, many local pools are open and some have been for 2 weeks. It is safer now than it will be when people arrive from outside. It’s all as clear as mud. 🤨

This is really interesting, as I feel as though a small band of residents have bullied the president into opening ours without sharing the full extent of the requirements - for example, our poolside shower is in use, and yesterday we were told that the cleaning requirement had been reduced to once a day.

Do you think you could send me a copy of the legal document that your administrators have based their pool rules on please? I worry that we’re heading for a fall.

Thank you. Jill

Ours in Playa Flamenca opened last week, we have one gate that is entrance only, with one shower block of 3 showers (block one) this is the before swim shower there is sanitiser then we have another block of 3 showers at the other end of the pool (block two) to use after swimming and a different exit gate. It is a big pool but we are not allowed more than 30 people in at any time and no inflatables. Even during a normal season we very rarely get more than 30 people in it anyway.

We have an apartment on the golf course at Lomas de Campoamor. Our pool reopened a couple of weeks ago but no sun beds or showers to be used - apparently someone subsequently ignored the new rules, used a sunbed and we received an email saying that any further rule breaking would result in the pool being closed. The sunbeds have had to be chained up. There’s always one isn’t there!!

Thanks Bex. I wonder if anything will change now. If the shower is outside, it seems crazy not to be able to use it, providing sanitiser and cleaning regularly. These rules were made with the city indoor pools in mind, where they are often situated in the basement of a tenement building. Every pool and community have a different situation to handle so that is why the rules are difficult to apply and we are all stabbing in the dark.
