Can I ask if those travelling to Spain in the foreseeable (against Foreign Office advice) have travel insurance covering them especially for Covid, if so which companies do they use?

I have travel insurance with my bank account.  I phoned them just before I travelled last month and they confirmed I was covered for travel to Spain and COVID but not for travel disruption/ cancellation.

I had also been looking at insurefor.com who seemed to offer cover too. Battleface also offer cover but , I think, only up to age 60.
I would suggest always phoning insurers to check what cover they are currently offering. Cover offered seems to be changing constantly at the moment and websites are not always up to date.  Some insurers also seem to be adding Covid cover as an optional add on.

Try Staysure. They cover you for Covid and you can pay an excess (£5 I think) to cover 'against Foreign Office advice'

Hi.

I flew out last week.

I took out a policy with staysure.co.uk who cover travel against FCO advice. I did read a few comments stating to read the small print with this company. To me it seemed fairly clear, but i did ring them and specifically asked the question about whether you are covered if you travel against advice.  I was told that if you take the add on (around £5) you will be covered for everything you would normally be covered for even though travelling against advice.

It does NOT cover covid 19 related issues.

Cost around £30 for 28 days.

Then, i found insurefor.com who DO cover for covid if you become ill. So  i took out their policy too (£23).  I cannot recall if it covers travel against FCO advice too, so may be worth checking this rather than taking out 2 policies.

If you are hiring a car  and you take out an excess car hire policy, check in the small print because i realised many companies specifically exclude cover if you are travelling against FCO advice. Not sure why?

I took my care hire excess policy out with carehireexcess having spoken to them 1st. They confirmed verbally and by email that their policy will cover even if travelling against FCO advice.

All a bit of a nightmare but now i am covered for everything (i hope) !!

Not quite sure how it would work if you had to make a claim and have two insurance policies in place.

Not sure either. I would only claim against one policy.

Hi there

I could be totally wrong here, but I think if you claim against one policy, you are unable, legally, to claim against another. It’s unfortunate that our insurance “guru”, Cheryl, has not been active for some many weeks. She would surely have known for sure 🤪🥂

I understand that i could only claim against one policy. It was really a belts and braces exercise.

Thanks

Totally correct Annette.

Staysure, adding all the extras you mention (I took them all) covers you for all your health needs in Spain but definitely does not cover Covid-19 if you travel against FCO advice.

Kind Regards

Nationwide flex plus account is a packaged account and covers to travel against FCO advice, it covers you for Covid abroad but not cancellation or curtailment due to Covid.

They cover up to 69 years of age, I am 65 and travel insurance is on the rise for me.

A few of the features which make this a bargain.

This is Worldwide annual insurance not just Europe.

Full RAC type motor cover which costs app £120 with RAC

Mobile phone insurance, incidental for me.

It also covers your spouse.

No requirements to service the account in any way and can be cancelled at any time.

Cost is £13 pm = £156 annually.
