Hi.

I flew out last week.

I took out a policy with staysure.co.uk who cover travel against FCO advice. I did read a few comments stating to read the small print with this company. To me it seemed fairly clear, but i did ring them and specifically asked the question about whether you are covered if you travel against advice.  I was told that if you take the add on (around £5) you will be covered for everything you would normally be covered for even though travelling against advice.

It does NOT cover covid 19 related issues.

Cost around £30 for 28 days.

Then, i found insurefor.com who DO cover for covid if you become ill. So  i took out their policy too (£23).  I cannot recall if it covers travel against FCO advice too, so may be worth checking this rather than taking out 2 policies.

If you are hiring a car  and you take out an excess car hire policy, check in the small print because i realised many companies specifically exclude cover if you are travelling against FCO advice. Not sure why?

I took my care hire excess policy out with carehireexcess having spoken to them 1st. They confirmed verbally and by email that their policy will cover even if travelling against FCO advice.

All a bit of a nightmare but now i am covered for everything (i hope) !!

We had a trip booked for a USA trip in May - in March, when Covid hit the headlines, we took travel insurance with Staysure. We DID phone and ask if we were covered for Covid and they said no, this would be extra, so obviously we paid the extra believing we were now fully covered.

The trip was booked as a package with Worldwide Cruises which due to FCO advise, airline cancellations etc was cancelled by them - however, after repeated requests we finally got a refund short by £784.00 which they could not explain but said and did give us a letter for the insurer to make a claim.

Staysure refused the claim as the supplier was still in business! Yes, legally correct but now it looked like we would have to take legal action to recover the cost. Luckily a friend told us that even tho we had only paid the deposit by credit card, Under section 75 of consumer credit act we could make a claim - we did and got the money back two weeks ago.

Insurance - any type - if they can find a way not to pay they will - that's my experience.
