The main problems currently for any wise Government is that early in the vaccination program.Issuing vaccine passports are and in order of importance

1.If they issue passports such no doubt will lead to conspiracy theories exploding along with the resultant subsequent less take up of vaccine.

In order for a vaccine to be fully effective you need a minium of 95 % take up

2.Given ongoing emergence of new strains

Insufficient data  to date to evaluate efficacy and does it suppress transmission

3.Quite simply Governments must agree a strict protocol jointly if issuing vaccine passports

Other wise a tower of babble created

Just look at your own travel passport

Other than holder, nation of issue, expiry and issue date and unique number

All other passports are Identical

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

Hi John, looking around for EU views on vaccination passports I came across this article. Interesting reading.

https://www.brusselstimes.com/news/eu-affairs/154120/eu-divided-covid-19-vaccination-passports-travel-commission-von-der-leyen-michel-mandatory-airlines-who/

I read on the BBC this morning that Matt Hancock as said there is early evidence that vaccination reduces transmission to some extent. If that is correct that would a plus for vac. passports.

I read a while back that although the government have ruled out vaccination passports, they said if some countries required evidence of vaccination as a condition of entry you may be able to get something from your gp. At the moment gp’s issue letters for certain things for a small fee.

Craig245t From your first post "Unfortunately, I also found a petition with 167,000 signatures asking the government NOT to implement a vaccine passport system as it would infringe the human rights of those who don't want the vaccine. Hard to believe........ "

I don't know if this petition is based on the idea of a travel passport. There has been a discussion in the UK about people who have had the vaccine being issued with a passport that hospitality businesses could use to allow or disallow entry into their premises. The argument is that the lack of ...

...a passport would infringe the right to freedom of movement for those people who choose not to have the vaccine.

The vaccine passport which would allow people to travel abroad would only impact those returning to the UK since whether they could travel to another country or not would be dependent on the country they were visiting. Many travellers leaving the UK already have to have vaccines for diseases which are endemic in the countries they are visiting, so these types of precautions are already widely used.

I take it to mean a vaccination passport for travel. To me, that's what a passport is.

The government has clearly stated they would not introduce a scheme to allow entry to pubs, restaurants etc and I agree with this.

I'd rather not have a vaccination passport but if the countries I want to visit are going to insist then I'd happily have one.

I agree with all that it needs to be a co-ordinated effort and not just a haphazard mess with some countries not recognising passports from others

Don't you think the biggest problem with the vaccine passport is the fact that WE are in Spain and Spain is so far behind with tha vaccinations that WE will not be able to travel OUT of Spain. Also there is confusion regarding the vaccine here. If you have private health insurance, ie live here but not working or above retirement age, then you will not be registered for the vaccine. Many people are in the same boat as me. I retired at 55 and moved to Spain. No medical rights whatsoever since leaving the EU. At least in the UK all you need to do as a foreigner is register with a GP...Here tis isn't the case. So much for a worldwide vaccination program.

Hi all, fingers crossed for UK govt giving permission for us to travel to & from Spain, soon.

Re proof of vaccination,,whether electronic or on paper, I suspect Boris won't pass up the opportunity to hold us to ransom for it.

Regards to all our readers.

I agree but the problem will be when Spain will allow us in.

They seem to be well behind us with vaccinations.

Fingers crossed though 😎

Hi Craig, I suspect that we , and thousands of others, would support the idea of carrying proof of vaccination, whether electronic or paper isn't all that important as long as it gets us through immigration wherever we may be.

The only concerns are, how much will Boris want for it each year, would it require annual vaccination to preserve its validity, and last but not least, honesty, and the current UK govt.  are two mutually exclusive concepts!

PS looks like Boris is training up his fiancé to fill the gap left by the departure of a Mr D.Cummings.

I did not realise they were charging some people for vaccinations, we got ours free of charge and within the promised timeframe. How much have you paid?
