We have had our holiday home for almost 3 years and not seen much in the way of cockroaches in that time. We're very vigilant about covering plugholes, blocking up overflows, bleaching, spraying, leaving traps, citronella and lavender air fresheners. However in the last 3 weeks we have had one a week and I'm horrified! Is anyone else having this problem and does anyone have any tips? Or do we need to get the professionals in?

One cockroach a week isn't exactly a problem. No matter what you do or how much money you use, you will never get rid og them completely. 🪳

So I'm overreacting a tad then? I just wish I knew how they were getting in when we're so careful, I suppose they're the Spanish version of spiders and moths etc in the UK..just much more ugly and unpleasant lol

Treat your floors, including any patio areas, everyday with this floor cleaner, which includes insecticide and available from Mercadona, This will kill all crawling insects including cockroaches. The first application should be strong - 5 capfulls to a bucket of water then reduce to 2 capfulls daily. Good luck.

That stuff from Mercadona is great and keeps ants down as well.

Twice a year, we use a cockroach spray we get from a Chinese store (X-pel or something like that). and use half the can.

A combination of both seems to keep them down and we haven't had any for years except for the odd dead one.

(touch wood, we'll get loads now I've said that).

But one a week is certainly nothing to worry about. We absolutely hate the things.

(Here's one anecdote. My wife had a knee replacement years back but uses a stick to get around. Not that mobile and sometimes needs help to get in the car. One day I heard a scream from the loo and she'd seen a cockroach but when I went to find out what was wrong she was up on the loo site on her feet.  How the heck she managed that I've no idea)

I've laughed out loud at that, superhuman effort when necessary clearly lol

Forgive me if this sounds stupid, but when you say you use the spray, where do you actually spray? We spray around the patio doors and front door

Hi go to Consum and buy a tin of ORO. Spray around outside and inside of doors and windows. It lasts a year even with washing floors. Hope this helps
