We need a cultural centre in our city Orihuela Costa the the car park in front of La Zenia Boulevard  is council  owned. So we have the land to put it on with under ground parking Orihuela City council the Mayor have the money but will not sign the papers for the work to go a head the money has been given by Valencia. The same as the emergency   center we need a better  deal from  Orihuela City .

That is not a full Cultural Centre and cannot be used for all the purposes that one would usually be used for.  That space was campaigned for but is not enough.  The money for the centre has been provided and allocated, but the city will not spend it unless made to do so.  I would suggest you contact CLARO for more details.

I see you are in Catral, which has a lovely Cultural Centre, with a population just a fraction of the Orihuela Costa.  Why don't you think the people of Orihuela Costa are not entitled to the same facilities that you have in Catral?

Part time or otherwise they still pay their taxes!  And there is a good size residential population.  I agree that not all residents actual register on the padron, but they should.  However the Coast provides 60% of Orihuela's tax incomes and gets minimal expenditure.  There is also a rubbish bus service to Orihuela from the coast and it is over 30km away, so to suggest we use the city's Cultural centre and other amenities is ridiculous.  Catral is much nearer Orihuela than OC and you have your own centre.  And anyway, the money has been put up already, so it isn't a finance issue.  Ditto the OC emergency centre but the Mayor wont sigh off the financing - I'm told it is because once these things are completed they have to employ people to man the buildings.

Orihuela City is more than happy to keep agreeing to more building on the coast because it generates easy money for them, but with that comes the responsibility of ensuring the services are in place.  It took years of campaigning to get proper school buildings - you didn't have to do that in Catral!

We don't have a cinema showing any films - Spanish, English or any other language. We don't have a teatro either.  There are Spanish people living here too - or didn't you realise?  The state schools are Spanish, why shouldn't the children who attend them be given the same facilities as children in what you consider to be 'Spanish' towns?  We, whether part-time or fulltime residents, PAY TAXES - 60% of Orihuela's income is from the coast.  OC isn't just English.  No one is asking for facilities for English people, it is a request for standard facilities available in almost all, even relatively small, towns to be available in OC to the residents and visitors, whatever their nationality.  You seem determined to view it as a 'them and us' situation, why?  What is your real objection to allocated funds being used for the purposes for which they have been allocated?  You obviously don't like Orihuela Costa - your choice, and that is fine.  No doubt everyone could name places they don't like and would choose not to live, but I would not deny the tax paying population of those places the right to the same facilities as anywhere else.  I am glad that other towns in the area have such great facilities, all that is being asked is for the same/similar facilities to be established in Orihuela Costa, paid for with the funds already allocated for those purposes.
