Good afternoon, iam after some more help and information if possible.Has anyone seen or read any clarification on the financial requirements to now retire in Spain. I have read various articles and Iam still confused. I understand that for my wife and myself to gain residency,we first of all need to show a minimum of around €33,800 in our Spanish bank account for the first 12 months then reapply for a 2 year visa, but does this mean we would then need to show a current balance of double that amount,I.e €67,000 ?

Any information on this would be very much appreciated,

Regards,Paul.

To retire in Spain you will need to apply for residency initially to the Spanish embassy while you are still living in the UK. To be successful with your application for residency you will need to prove that you have an income of €27,115.20 per annum for yourself and an extra income of €6,778.80 for each additional person. So for you and your wife there needs to be an income of €33,894.00 per annum.

You will also need to prove that you have full private healthcare paid for a full year which after being made a legal resident you can apply for healthcare cover under the S1 scheme.

You can also, after a full year of legal residency apply to join the Convenio especial which gives you full access to the Spanish healthcare system but has a monthly payment.

Thanks very much for your reply and information Steve.I was looking in particular for clarification on wether, after the initial 12 months staying in Spain, when I ,am led to believe we apply for a 2 year visa, would that mean that at the time of applying we would need to have DOUBLE the annual amount to cover 2 more years residency or just the annual amount which would need to be repeated a further 12 months down the line.

I hope I,am explaining myself clearly and apologise if not,but as you can appreciate, having €33,800 or €67.000 makes a massive difference as our money would be made up of a continuous income rather than savings.

Many thanks

Pa

Hi Paul

I’ll try to add to Steve’s information. My understanding is, after your first year, having evidenced the initial €33000+ income, you would need to have access to twice that amount, i.e.€66000+, to cover you for the next two years. I’d guess that it would evidenced by money in the bank, or similar

The problem we all have is, because all the new “rules” are just that, new, and no one from the U.K. has gone through the process yet, it’s still a bit speculative and subject to what we all “think”

I’m not sure if that helps or not. There are members far more knowledgable than I am, so I’m sure if I’m wrong or I haven’t explained it very well, they’ll let us know 🤪🥂

Thanks very much,I think you’re probably right but I hope you’re wrong (no offence intended). I,ll just have to wait until something happens.

Cheers and stay safe

Thanks very much for the info Steve. Since I originally posted the question,I have spoken to a Spanish legal firm who have confirmed exactly what you say. However, they are hopeful that by June, the Spanish authorities will amend the figures bringing them down to encourage more people to go over permanently. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Great info Paul. It would appear that June might see amendments to a couple of potential sticking points

I’ve just responded to an earlier post of steve1686, asking if he’d be kind enough to do a guide, as he goes along the process 🤪🥂

That would be really helpful for people like myself hoping to start the process this year 👍

Ok guys and gals here goes we had our appointment at the Spanish consulate last Thursday and are awaiting the result.

The process was good however various forums differ to what you do and don’t need.I found o had too much paperwork and brought some of it back eg bills from our place over there documentation saying we had sold our UK property.

Requirements

Application Form

EX 01 and the payment form.

Criminal record check translated apostille

Medical check as above

3 months bank statements showing proof of funds I also submitted my pension statement.

Marriage certificate translated and apostille

Medical insurance for 1 year paid for in advance

As per previous comments the financial requirements are correct the process has probably taken 2 months to get to this point.

Hope this helps
