Hi everyone

We have just moved to Playa Flamenca last Saturday and left behind the grey skies of Blighty!

At home I used like a glass of red wine which I termed “plonk” I liked an Italian wine called Montepulciano, I wonder if anyone knows a Spanish equivalent as I don’t like the heavy red wines. So far I now have a few bottles to add to my cooking collection! Any advice greatly appreciated.

Regards

lorraine

Hi Lorraine, it might sound a bit daft, but some of the wines you get in one litre cartons for about a euro are light and not in your face.

There's also a light wine that Mercadona stock at just over a euro that a cheapskate ex-friend of Margaret's used to bring round - I'll have a look when I'm in Mercadona and see what brand it is.

As part of discovering your area, I suggest you find where your nearest bodega is. Hopefully forum members in your area will advise. All the bodegas we've been to allow you to taste the wines, and the cheapest is usually quite smooth and, again, not in your face. Personally, I prefer sangre de toro (bull's blood), as that's got plenty of flavour, but that might be too powerful for you.

Like you, any wine rejected as undrinkable in our house gets used for cooking.

Enjoy your journey of discovery!

Also investigate some of the rosados. Some are very similar to a light red. My wife prefers them which is good as I get the red to myself ;)

Thanks Jim

I didn’t ask you directly as I had you down as a scotch man, should of known better! But will take your advice and try to find a bodega.

Looking forward to catching up as soon as we can.

How’s Margaret getting on? Any news, how’s your ear? Benny had an ear infection appear two days before we were due to fly, thankfully, the chemists here are amazing and they gave him some antibiotics, I couldnt believe the price????

We have now managed to get to the bank and draw cash, do some shopping and have bought a sofa!

Today’s mission is to try and find a wide brimmed hat for Benny, should be fun!! He hates shopping.

Take care

Love Lorraine

Hi Lorraine

Just got back from M having her hair done plus a lot of shopping. I didn't see the Mercadona wine I referred to, but have remembered it is/was called l'Antigon.

Can't remember what I've told you, but one of M's tumours has disappeared, and the other two aren't growing. Not shrinking either, and she's still got problems, but her weight's finally going up again. I had a carcinoma removed from my ear, and that seems to have healed up OK.

Glad Benny's OK. Prescription meds that you can buy are usually very cheap compared to the UK because they're price controlled. It's the ordinary OTC things like aspirin that are surprisingly expensive.

If you didn't succeed in finding a hat, the larger markets and Chinese shops usually have them.

Good luck

Jim

Hi Lorraine I usually like a decent wine in the UK, say £10/)£15 bottle but the ‘Liria’ in Spain is just right. Red or white and about €2 a bottle 😳found in Mercadona. Other than that just have fun trying all the wines after all they are much cheaper 😜

Still on the hunt for wine but Benny has now found a hat!

That’s great news re Margaret, you must be thrilled.

We have been out and about and are starting to meet people, I’ll tell you more via email.

Kind regards

Lorraine

Hi Pam

We are back in the UK for a month so I’m not too sure about the entertainment but if you look up Orihuela Costa buy and sell, there is usually lots of info posted on there. Hope you have a good time.

Regards

Lorraine
