Transferring car ownership
Has anybody had to transfer ownership of a vehicle and how did you do it? Been quoted more than 500 euros which seems excessive. Is it simple to do it yourself?

Go to a Gestoria and get them to do it. 500 is nonsense.

Before going to the Vehicle Department (Trafico) you will have to pay transfer tax (ITP) depending on make and age of the vehicle, not shape. You will also need proof of residence.

Any idea how much is the ITP on a car which will be 4 years old?

Hi, I used Expat Services in La Zenia. As our car was less than 5 years old it cost us 464 euros. It's the tax that the DGT charge that makes it more expensive on a car less than 5 years old.

For future info, the car’s valued at 8,000 and there is tax to pay at 6% plus Trafico fee of 61 so it turns out that 500 quoted is a bargain - even though it’s daylight robbery!
