Hi

I am putting this out there rather than taking it directly to Alex at this point as the poor guy may well be at breaking point

(But I really hope you read it Alex)

There have been numerous mentions lately of being considerate when posting on the forum

There also seems to be an endless supply of negativity from certain quarters. And unfortunately a lot of this seems to come from the well established. (In my words “old boys club”)

To the extent I chose recently to leave the forum, delete all my posts and have nothing more to do with it

This was a shame as I believe there are a lot of positives and at this point I have chosen to re engage

I have spoken to a number of people on this subject though and based on those conversations I would observe the following

A comment regardless of intent, accuracy or helpfulness can gain a thumbs up 👍🏻 and give credibility to the poster

It would appear that any number of thumbs down 👎🏻 does not, however, distract from the same poster

My suggestion would be that if a post get a thumbs down then on a one for one basis is subtracts from that members helpful posts in exactly the same way that a thumbs up adds to them

Not sure what the response to this might be

But I sincerely hope it will be refreshing

And encourage new members and their contributions

Cheers

Grahame

Hi Grahame

I'm glad you have decided to stay with us. This is a good suggestion about reducing the helping posts points when posts are marked as unhelpful, will have a think how to do this

Hi Grahame,

Thank you for raising the issue. I too have refrained from answering posts and contributing to the forum recently on the grounds of being deliberately answered by inflammatory, derogatory  and needless remarks by certain contributors. It’s sad to see this and it’s better to refrain from answering because it’s not worth the hassle.  The old saying stands true..... “arguing with an idiot makes two of them so, I’ll just leave you alone on this one.“

Stay safe.

Hi Wrypop

If you are not aware then perhaps you are not a regular visitor to the forum

If this is the case then I would rather not bring your attention to them

There are numerous examples

And you are best out of it

Cheers

Thanks BeniSnowbird

When I thought about posting I thought I might be going out on a limb

I am truly sorry that you have felt it necessary to refrain from contributing

But hopefully more like us will now feel we have a voice and Alex will be able to address the problem

From me to you - don’t be afraid to voice anything - we all count

Cheers

Hi bennisnowbird,  shame you not been on here much, as I mentioned in one of your last posts to you,  I read your posts with respect and have always found your input impartial and to the point

I agree, your quote: "A comment regardless of intent, accuracy or helpfulness can gain a thumbs up and give credibility to the poster".

But this forum has that & more, including chat, quips, anecdotes, opinions & covering a multitude of  subjects. An open freedom to talk with someone else privately or on open forum. (this has proved invaluable to many during these weeks/months).

Alex quite rightly (which covers all posts) has said:

"Thank you for continuing to keep our forums friendly and open to all. During these uncertain times members may have lots of questions, so thank you for being patient and polite when replying."

Your suggestion would be: ".....that if a post get a thumbs down then on a one for one basis is subtracts from that members helpful posts in exactly the same way that a thumbs up adds to them."

I believe Alex attempts to reduce the personal & unnecessary profanities or attacks on any forum member is sufficient.

If Alex or others wish to comment, I would welcome other´s views. It´s my forum too.

While I acknowledge that the Forum has seen an increase in rudeness, nastiness and bitchiness in some replies it should be noted that what some may see as a negative response to a question is indeed a slice of the reality of the situation.

That is the crux.

I can say John56, "I disagree"

I can finish my answer to you with "you stupid t**t" or "with respect".

I finish my post ...............& we therefore talk another day.

With respect.
