word of warning. Went to Imed in Torrevieja last Wednesday. and there was a gang of a male and 2 women. He sat in the car and managed to distract me. My wife was standing by the car and one of the females distracted her, whilst the other one stole her handbag through the car window. Watch out if they address you as madam and they talk in spanish.  One purse, 2 debit and 1 credit card, phone, 2 driving licences and My passport etc.. They were obviously at the back of the que when it came to brains. They attempted to use the cards at a few places by inserting the cards and making up a pin. Had they swiped the card and kept the figure low they might have got away with it. In the end they got nothing. The purse was empty, the money was in my pocket. We put a track on the phone and kept sending alarm signals. So the binned it. Some kind gentleman found it in a bin and we met him and he gave it back. Well worth 20 euros. They hardly made a profit, however the inconvenience to us was  massive. I managed to just about sort out an emergency passport this Monday and then dash to santander for the 10.00pm ferry. The Spanish police advised us the criminals are particularly targeting cars with UK number plates. Next time I do not care what the law is, I will only leave copy documents in the car

Hi altinkum,

I´m sorry to hear about this, but thanks very much for taking the time to share your experience.  It sounds like you mitigated the worst of your losses by some sensible forward-planning - a great reminder to us all! - and I´m glad it wasn´t a fruitful result for the thieves.

Best wishes,

Kim

Sorry to hear about your bad experience at the hands of the organised criminals that focus on the Foreingers. I myself had a similar experience and it set us back a lot of money for temporary passports, damage to our van, all our cash and prescription drugs that my husband required. The police don't seem to be able to crack down on those nasty criminal gangs. Thanks for raising awareness and reminding us to be extra observant. They know where to strike their prey.. Outside Imed clinics where people need to go for their PCR tests for travel home and leave them without their passports. Scum of the earth if you ask me

Hi this might help,I have done this.  go to a local notary, they will photocopy  the paperwork you need to keep in your car, its signed and stamped by the notary. they charged me  7euros per copy. ( this is excepted by the police.) Passport/insurance/itv/logbook. I know its extra cost but you have the peace of mind knowing your originals are safe at home.
