Hi All

As the time is getting closer to us deciding on whether or not to make the permanent move we are considering some of the finer details

Easy to get excited about the prospect of a new life but time to consider any potential problems

Both of us are taking long term repeat prescription medication

Does Spain use the repeat prescription process ? Are prescriptions given by GP or hospital ? How long do the repeats last ? Etc etc

Appreciate any help in this matter

As well as anything else we might not have thought of such as dentist and opticians

Cheers

Grahame

The Spanish state health system is second to none and, if you require long term medication, your médico will give you repeat prescriptions. Every year you will have a full blood analysis and your medication adjusted as required.

In hospitals the consultant will prescribe medicine which will also be dispensed by the farmacias here. The prescription and appointment systems are computerised so you will get medication dispensed whether prescribed by the hospital, or your médico.

Dentists and opticians aren't free, but dentist prices can be cheaper than an NHS dentist in the UK. Opticians are in the high street, unless you need specialist treatment in a hospital outpatients department.

Waiting times in Spain are far shorter than in the UK and, although prescriptions aren't free, they can be for retirees depending on income. If you are a pensioner earning more than 18.000€ a yera you pay 10%. If under, you pay zero.

"The Spanish state health system is second to none"

You clearly have not experienced health care in France!

We are not considering moving to France

Was hoping for some helpful feedback

If you want to “point score” please could you do it on somebody else’s time

Maybe time to get your anger management medication dosage upped a little?

Pete.

Sorry,

Are you talking to me or Movingon ?

There seems to be a bit of tension between a few of the most helpful members on the forum

I would like to think that a genuine request for help does not result in existing members squabbling

Nobody benefits from that that, surely

I felt I was in the middle of something personal between existing members, and tried to say as much, when Pete Knight decided to wade in with some sarcastic comment

Sorry if I insulted one of your relatives Pete

If this is a self help group for people who care about others, as I hoped, then I am all in and will offer support to any who seek it

If it is just another social media group patting each other on the back and forming cliques, then facebook has more members and equally, more people seeking validation

I don’t think I need more anger management medication

Perhaps some people could employ a little more empathy

Perhaps some people are just seeking 👍🏻

Perhaps some people are lonely

Perhaps some people just need to be loved

Perhaps I am on the wrong forum

Ho Hum

But I do feel sorry for the genuine members

😀

You Grahame, it was your comment that I quoted.

Movingon’s comment was perfectly valid I’m my opinion, I think your response was a bit over the top.

Not sure how it was valid

I didn’t mention France at all

Looked like a sly dig to me

I have edited my previous comment

I think Movingon's comment may have been a response to mine, saying that France's health service was better than Spain, when I had said Spain's was second to none.

I don't think it was directed at you
