Because of an ongoing complaint I cannot disclose the name of a very large company whom sells medical insurance...

We arrived here with our 5 year old granddaughter awaiting our S1 forms to enter the Spanish health system

We were told by someone in the company claiming to be a lawyer ( who was not ) we needed this expensive cover for residency which we did not

This company has danced us to the tune of 3800 Euro

Missold us the highest rate of health insurance when we were waiting for our s1 forms for health care in Spain on the pretext of we would need this for residency which is a lie after 5 months of messing us around big time we are now taking the complaints form to the town hall ...

Any questions please feel free to private message me 😊

Yes Kim they did and we were not informed that we could get temporary 3 month sip cards while waiting for ours

Not sure what happens when we hand in the letter of complaint

Thank you for your interest just don’t want it to happen to anyone else 😊

I know there is some history behind a this and that it's frequently claimed that for non S1 holders private cover is the only option however that is not universally true, or at least wasn't a shade under 3 years back, because I have friends who moved here around then and despite both being under retirement age at the time (she still is) both got SIP cards and quite quickly and easily too.

If they had needed private cover then their move would have been totally out of the question. I will try to find out more and report back.

As an aside and while neither defending nor criticising the insurer in this case, or insurers in general, it does pay to remember that they are ALL private for profit businesses and as such under no obligation whatsoever to advise potential clients on possible alternatives to whatever cover it is you are asking them for. You may be able to argue the point on a moral basis but not on a legal one.

In essence it's really no different to walking into a shop and buying something then later complaining that they didn't tell you that you could have got the same item cheaper or even free at the shop next door.

I have read your response my husband and I were told by the lawyer ( who turned out not to be a lawyer she lied ) that even although we were getting sip cards that we had to have the highest level of cover to the tune of nearly 4000 Euro to obtain residency which of course was another lie .... the non lawyer whom is German then took us by the hand to the company who sold us the false policy about 3 minutes away on foot who by coincidence was also German ... They spoke to each other in German which we know now was very unprofessional....We later talked to the police to obtain our residency who said we were not covered for residency under this policy because of health reasons the police were shocked and angry because we are  Imogen’s grandparents and we are trying to give her a good life ....

Anyway the company in question ( we went to see with all the documents ) in Alicante twice asked us if we could wait 2 weeks before putting a complaint into the town hall we agreed as we believed it was because of the Easter holiday we waited and waited in all the company was sent around 20 emails and we perhaps got 2 replies either the gentleman in question was of or wasn’t in the office ...

Eventually we went to get a letter of complaint the staff in the office were like headless chickens opening and closing drawers and cabinets saying they couldn’t find one and could we come back the next day and we would definitely get some kind of answer we agreed ... We went back the next day and hey ho it was the original man in Alicante behaving like one of the stepford wives ....

We took it to the town hall and were told they hadn’t stamped it so we went back to get it stamped that was around one month ago and the inspector in the town hall was very interested in the case ... she asked us to go back and see her if we haven’t heard from them guess what we haven’t as per usual so this is where we are now ... Everything  and everyone has been very nice and we love living here but we refuse to let it take over our lives so after the nudge in a few weeks time we will put it down to experience.....

Hope this puts a little more light on our situation 😊

Valencia had free healthcare before they were over-ruled by central government, but even then it only meant that anyone was entitled to a temporary SIP card. It's only the permanent, plastic, SIP card that meets residencia requirements.

I've not seen any mention of the new government amending the residencia law Real Decreto 240/2007.
