Does anyone know approximately how long it takes to see an eye consultant after being referred by your GP. This would be at Torrevieja Hospital. Many thanks.

Hello

The consultation for eye treatment  used to be carried out at a salud on Calle Patricio Perez in the town centre, I only went to the hospital for the procedure.

In the Salud optical consultation rooms are upstairs on the 1st floor - Sorry, cant help with times, it is 4yrs since I went ........then, it took  1 month for appt and then 2 months for hospital treatment at this time of year

Cheers

I went to the doc last month about an urgent eye problem and was seen at Patricio Perez the same week.

Thank you. I have cataracts which I presume aren't urgent but would like an idea of waiting times for consultation.

The waiting times will vary, depending upon area etc and unless cataracts are bad, not likely to be ‘ urgente’.  Having said which, my husband was referred by his optician to our GP, due to a minor accident which caused an internal haemorraghe to eye. He was phoned the next day and an appt made for some 4 months hence. This was subsequently reconsidered the following week and he was summoned for a few days later, so am assuming they thought that urgent.

Thank you. My optician referred me with an up to date sight test to my GP saying I had cataracts in both eyes. My GP didn't even look, she just put a referral through so apart from my eyesight deteriorating ( not dramatically) but enough to concern me, I don't know what the GP has written in her referral. I will wait a little longer and maybe phone the hospital to enquire. I hope your husbands eyesight has been sorted. X

Thank you for your good wishes re Arthur’s sight, it’s nothing to worry about unduly, but be aware. However, your  optician should be able to give you an indication of the level of your vision loss in percentages. I have lost approx 35% of my vision due to cataract but he tells me that apparently they will not consider treating them until 50% loss, through the state system. How true this is, I have no idea, but I cannot imagine he is telling incorrect information in general.

I would have it done privately, about 3.5 K I believe, had we not been hit with a couple of completely unexpected and very large domestic repair bills amounting to several thousand.

I'm glad Arthur's eye problem is better. All I know regarding my sight is that I have had new glasses and have had to go back in 6 months  as the glasses aren't working as well. The optician has said that if you have cataracts your prescription won't ever be exact as they change. Hey up I will wait a little longer. Thank you for replying.
