Evening everyone

We’re shortly moving to Playaflamenca and I’m hoping to get some clarification on the health system it will be for a 7yr old, 42yr old and 56 yr old. Do we have to go private or can we join the Spanish NHS, or is a pay as you go an option. This would be for dentistry and medications that I presently get from the uk.

Many thanks in anticipation

Can’t wait to be there with you all 🌞🌞🌞

You will need to have private healthcare for all the family I'm afraid. When you have become a resident you will be able to apply for free full healthcare provided by the Spanish healthcare system as reintroduced last month by the Spanish government. You will have to pay full prescription costs. Dentists and opticians are all private so you will have to pay the full costs. There is no benefits system here. Check up on the requirements to be legal here in Spain especially regarding the requirements to gain residency.

It's fantastic here in Spain. Good luck

You'll need full-cover private health insurance. Spend some time browsing the forum - the topic has been extensively covered.

Some health centres will provide temporary health cover, but they aren't all obliged to do so.

You can't buy into the state scheme until you've been resident here for twelve months.

Dentistry is private. Children are entitled to free dentistry but I don't know if this applies if you're not in the state system.

You should be able to buy all your medications from a chemist - prices are much cheaper than in the UK.

A new law about health cover came out recently, but Valancia haven't yet said how they're going to interpret and apply it.

Hi

We’ve got our nie numbers, bank accounts etc being sorted now. What would be the first step for residencia. So am I right in thinking that private healthcare is required for 12 months and once a resident we can apply for Spanish cover
