We took out private medical insurance several years ago. Mine is through Asssa and when I joined it was an offer of "the age you join is the age you stay" i.e. no price increases for your age, only inflation.  I was early 50's then and I pay 110euros a month now.  They have different levels of cover as well. My husband is with Sanitas and has yearly increases due to his age (he is 63) and currently pays 293euros every quarter, and 12euros co-payments. Obviously with private insurance they exclude pre-existing conditions.   I have had breast cancer and Sanitas would not even insure me, hence my husband and I having different providers.  You can get quotes online, or suggest Jennifer Cunningham for a quote for Asssa.  Hope this helps

My husband and I are with ASSSA, 59 and 57 respectively, with no pre-existing conditions, so no exclusions.  We joined ASSSA a couple of years ago on the same basis as Purdy and currently pay Eu 650 each per year for Level 3 cover.

Hi Jules,

You're not the first person on this forum to say they were mislead by ASSSA - it may help other forum members, especially newbies, if you wouldn't mind giving a bit more detail about what they need to be aware of.

For example, It's generally accepted that if you're too young to be drawing UK State pension and therefore can't get an S1 form from DWP Newcastle, you need private health insurance to obtain a Resident's Green Card. However, there are other instances where you may not be drawing the State pension, but still qualify for an S1 because, for example, you may be in receipt of an "exportable benefit". Spanish Health insurance companies and their brokers won't volunteer that information - they may not even be aware of it - they just want to sell you insurance and, as you say, it can be costly.

Kind regards,

Kim

Hello I am sorry if anyone feels they were mislead. We have now opened an office in Playa Flamenca and if they want to explain to us the situation we will try to make sure this does not happen again. PM me for our contact details.

I have to say that I have been with Asssa for at least 10 years now and I have never had a problem or been let down by them.   The only irritating factor is that you have to get permission for every consultants' appointment that you want. (it doesn't actually take more than a day to get though).  It is just that compared to Sanitas, who my husband is with, he can make the appointment himself if he knows which consultant he needs to see.  I initially took my policy out through Jennifer Cunningham in Mojacar.

Hi Les,

Some do, some don't - It's important to understand the different circumstances.

Kind regards,

Kim

Many Thanks,
