Hi All

We are currently staying in Los Dolses for four weeks

My wife suffers from what has been diagnosed as perennial rhinitis, which basically means hay fever that can be set off by a wide range of things

She doesn’t suffer in the usual sneezing and streaming eyes way but rather has more like a mild asthma attack which leaves her exhausted for the rest of the day

We have holidayed in the Canary Islands in January, and Spanish south coast in September and she has had no symptoms

March is one of her worst months as tree pollen seems to be a problem for her. We have talked about the idea of buying a property out here for her health.

The current month out here is for research purposes

So far she has had no symptoms

But

There are several months when we have not been in Spain

Does anybody suffer from this type of condition and are there times when it is bad for sufferers to be out here ?

We are considering the Orihuela coast region

Cheers

Grahame

I used to suffer from asthma & hayfever in the UK. (seven-year cycles)

Never here in Spain, however depending on the season, I see others suffering. Pine pollen is just coming into season. Does not affect me but many suffer in March.

Yes indeed. People seem to suffer less near the coast, But good luck & enjoy some sea breezes.

All I can add is that if you're considering a property purchase here, have a close look at what's in the garden and neighbouring gardens. My wife used to suffer back in the UK, especially when the rape seed fields were in full flower. Out here, she's very much improved, but when the olive tree is in blossom then this can affect her, whereas lemon blossom doesn't. A Spanish friend of ours is suffering at the moment, and that's simply because he takes his dogs for walks through the fields where the spring flowers, like sorrel, are blooming.

Thanks Jim

Much appreciated

Funny enough she never used to suffer but rape fields have sprung up all around where we live in the UK

Cheers

My husband has suffered hay fever for a long time. The last few years we have been in Spain mid April then June and he has managed to miss it in England and never has it in Spain

I have suffered with hay fever for 50 years, two years ago my Spanish doctor prescribed " Bilaxten " and it has worked fantastically for me. It can be bought over the counter here.

Good morning Grahame....very sorry to hear about your wife situation. Now, please don’t laugh what I am going say as it has been always a success since we had and others eaten, in January of each year, the local honey of the area. I had and my daughters too tried when there were little and every morning we did eat a small spoon of honey ... for the whole month. After that... we never suffered through the rest of the year...we leaved in the Mountains, and near the seas too... and it worked. I hope this will help your wife, as I know how much difficult it is when you have got this allergy... one thing is sure you can always try!...honey is good anyway for health (... well with moderation of course!).,.By the way, I learnt that that my Great Grandmother who leaves until 102 years in the South West of France... bonne chance !!!😉😌👍

Honey. Fully agree. When you discover the allergy (which plsnt or blossom) take the honey produced by the bees thst pollenate that plant. Sound advice. V
