Hello

Thank you for adding me to the group. I'm Jan & my partners Ross. We are in our 50s (30s in our minds). We have just sold our holiday home in the lovely area of Kemer in Turkey & are now looking to buy closer to the UK where we live. Researching Spain in general we quite fancy Playa Flamenca & surrounding areas in Alicante/Murcia regions within 1 hour airport & 30 mins walk to beach. We like culture & things to do & see (Ross loves diving & Watersports). Nice restaurants & lovely places to sit & chill & people watch! Advice on buying would also be appreciated as we've learnt there is approx 14% to add on to purchase price with fees etc. Not interested in tall blocks. 3 stories tallest & looking for ground floor bungalow type or 1st floor.

All advice appreciated for us English looking to buy holiday home!

Thank you

Jan & Ross

We have just bought a lovely town house in Playa Flamenca with the help of Home Espana. Neil is very knowledgeable and after months of searching with other agents, he hit the nail bang on the head and found us the perfect place. Don’t need a car where we are unless you intend to explore further afield.

Dear Jan & Ross,

Yes there is always a cost to be added on to the 'final purchase price' and 10-12% is not uncommon at all. Any good estate agent will advise you on this, for free ! Having recently moved inland from the area of the Costa Blanca you are talking about, and having spent 8yrs running a business in the Mar Menor area, i would advise you of two things .1) In general the Murcia region is cheaper than the alicante region and 2) it is ALWAYS better value inland away from the coast - albeit possibly fewer `facilities`?

Hi Jan & Ross

We bought our quad house in Playa Flamenca in April. Yes, there is an extra 14% on top of the purchase price but that includes all charges. We used Sun Lawyers and gave them Power of Attorney, it meant we didn’t have to keep back and forth for signing purposes. They provided the service for us including NIE, bank account, utilities, paying the agent and any queries we have had since moving here, they have always been happy to help. It made the buying so easy, we chose our house, paid a deposit and went back to the UK, we didn’t return until the day we moved in, it’s the best move we’ve made! I hope you find your dream home, get in touch if you would like to meet up when you are here, there is plenty going on.

Kind regards

Lorraine and Brian

PS. We are big kids too! Or at least we think we are! Lol

Thank you Lorraine & Brian.

We are coming over October for 2 weeks. We are constantly looking on the internet at property for sale. Playa Honda area looks quite nice too. We will make appointments to view a couple of weeks before we go over. It would be nice to meet you if you are around at that time. Will be in touch.

We came over in January to start our search because we wanted somewhere for the winter months. It appeared that the properties available then had been on the market for some time and none of our viewings ticked all our boxes. We came back in March with a better idea of what we wanted and bought a Town house in Playa Flamenca and completely different from what we originally wanted but best location for winter as it can be dead in some areas. Purchased through Home Espana and Sun Lawyers who have been very helpful and did everything for us. Now we are here in the busy season and have been cleaning for a month so far! It was a rental property for some years and although it looked clean, it wasn’t up to our standards 😂 and we have had new fans and Mozzie screens installed and made s few changes in readiness for our next visit Sep/Oct. Would be fun to meet you guys and compare experiences.

Hi Tessa

It would be lovely to meet up when you are here. We fly home for August/September as my daughter is having her second child (I don’t want to miss that!). We are back first week in October, so give us a shout when you are here, it’s always great to share experiences, everyone here is so helpful and friendly.

Looking forward to meeting you.

Kind regards

Lorraine and Brian

Hi Jan

That’s great, just give us a shout when you are here. I’m sure Ross and Brian will have lots to discuss, Brian was an advanced instructor for BSAC.
