Completely agree with the comments (except Richard). Give it a try. You pick it up slowly and you will be surprised what you remember. Everybody doesn't speak English and why should they. We are in Spain not England.

What is a conversation ,talking about your holidays, hobbies, family etc I am sure you will be able to achieve this through hard work and determination by going to classes, lots of stuff on you tube I’m using learn Spanish with Paul Noble I got the audio book from amazon when I got mine the first book was free so might pay you to give it a try lots of free stuff on youtube also

Hi, and welcome to Playa Flamenca. There are lessons in the Sunny Corner bar, beginners on Tuesday afternoon, and intermediate on Wednesday afternoon. I believe they start at 1:30 and cost 5 euros. The bar is on the corner of Calle Parana and Calle Niagara, so it is not far from you. I hope you go for it and enjoy learning Spanish, and I am sure you will get a lot of benefit from the knowledge. I have a weekly lesson at home and it suits me better. Also the tip about Duolingo is great. I have learnt so much from that ap and you can go at your own pace. Best of luck, and have fun!

No sorry, I live in LA Marina. Most 'councils ' run funded courses, I don't do these as they run term time and I live between Spain and Scotland and would miss too much so I don't know how good they are but they do seem exceptionally good value and I think the teachers are qualified so worth a look. Progress seemed slow for me to begin with as you don't have enough vocabulary but pretty soon it takes off and you will be surprised by your achievements so stick with it. Bonus, learning a language is recommended for keeping the brain agile!

Agree with all you have said.  When my Mum lived here she used to watch Spanish Children's TV to help her learn.  I have a Mexican Spanish tutor in the UK who is also a friend so when we get together we try to speak only in SPanish, very tiring but so worth while.  I am here for 2 months but know that practicing my spanish will be more difficult that where we usually stay in El Campello.

I have just started learning Spanish , extremely basic and have been past 5 weeks , we came to Spain September but after sorting all move and settling in it was mid November by time got around to it. It's not in your area to give you contact but no matter who you are with stick to it , you think it maybe easy as you know the thank you and the please ect but once started you will find it difficult, but percivier with it as like earlier comments to do conversation your fluent in Spanish jwhuch is a long way off just grasp the everyday words and importantly numbers, 1-1000 not just one to ten .

Please don't think I am patronising but you cannot put the same order of English words same order as Spanish as they jumble it about so at first it does not seem to make sense but it will.

I am not a great learner so after few weeks I thought to pack it in there's a masculine and feminine ways to say the same question but kept going and it does start to make sense

Ignore any negative replies there only greatful that they can get a Spanish workman that speaks English instead of trying to learn the language of the country they decided to move to.

As long as they can order a beer in Spanish they think that will do.

You stick to it and good look
