Hi, We've had to delay our move to Spain due to COVID-19 and Brexit. We now plan to retire early next April.

Does anyone have recent experience, since Brexit, of applying for residency and all that entails? Do I need to engage legal assistance or can the majority be undertaken by myself?

I know we can apply for a non_ lucrative visa and although we will not be able to comply with the monthly income requirement I assume a lump sum equivalent, in the bank, will suffice.

What else will we require? Health insurance and what level? After a period of time will be be added to the Spanish health service?

Sorry for all the questions, that may have been asked previously,  but I had an understanding before Brexit, via this site, of the requirements but now at a lose.

TIA....stay safe

I'm not at all sure that cash in the bank will get you through a NLV application but even if it does you need to remember that for the subsequent 2 two year visas you will need to demonstrate 2x the annual resources or roughly €70k each time, will you be able to do that?
Health care must be full and non exclusive effectively providing cover  equivalent to the state system.
After one year you can apply to join the Covenio Especial scheme which, if under 65 costs €60/mth each or if over €157, in both cases the cost of medicines will be for you to bear.
Once resident if now, or in the future, you qualify for S1's then you can apply to join the state system with those but regardless you must still have one year's fully paid up private insurance for the initial NLV.

Thanks for that info.

It clears up the financial requirements......a minimum of £32k would meet the criteria.

We certainly couldn't  meet the monthly income even with private pensions and a UK pension.
