Hi we are thinking of relocating from the uk to south of Alicante. We are just wondering if anyone can recommend a nice place . We would like to be near shops , bars , and a community where we can meet new friends . Not too sure how we are going to begin this new lifestyle but would like some feedback as to where we can start looking . Thank you claire

Hi Kim thank you , yes my husband has retired and I am sort of semi retired . Our house is been knocked down in the future for a train line called HS2. The government will be buying our house so as soon as we find something we just let them know . We are mortgage free so we will have the cash . I would like to work on a part time basis if there is anything out there . Worked in schools for most of my career . Not sure on any areas just going on reading about southern Spain . Not sure about the health care bit either can you get health care out there . We do want to move to Spain but we don’t know where to start .

Kind regards

Claire

Hi Claire,

There are many choices to be made when moving to Spain.

Firstly have you selected an area which you would like to move to, i,e. Costal or inland??

Do you want to walk everywhere or will you be buying a car??

Do you want to be part of an urbanisation or live in a detached property??

Do you want to be within walking distance of shops, restaurants and bars??

What will your budget be??

These are all very important decisions to be made.

Let me know your thoughts.

Johnathon.

Hello Claire and welcome to the Forum. We´ve all been in your shoes, exciting and scary at the same time. This forum has been invaluable and I think it´s worth reading all posts because helpful tips can turn up even on seemingly unrelated posts.
We did much the same, scanning maps and looking at property online. The climate in Costa Blanca South drew us to this area plus good links from Alicante airport and  we moved down 18 months ago.
It´s each to their own on particular areas and given my time again, even though we are totally happy with where we are, it could have turned out very differently and if I had the time again, I would rent first and keep everything in storage.

Having sold up and sent all our worldly goods off with the removal company, we drove down with our two dogs, happily singing along to "Homeless" by Paul Simon and Ladysmith Black Mambazo. Oh, the irony!
Having been pushed and pushed by our (British) Estate Agent and assured that everything was going to plan, and confirmed our completion date and arrival in Spain (very end June 2017), we rang them once we reached Alicante to arrange to pay and collect the keys. Not going to happen, paperwork not completed, seller not using a solicitor, deeds needed updating. A week in B&B with two dogs later we managed to arrange to move in on a rent to buy arrangement. We lived with all our own furniture and belongings, plus the owner´s, until we finally completed November 23rd. This didn´t give us time to install central heating before the winter so we were freezing, relying on an open fire plus a portable calor gas fire.
Bureaucracy, with multiple copies, reigns supreme. After hitting brick walls all over the place we finally found Uma at getlegalinspain.com. The weight was lifted for a very reasonable price with fantastic service. She is based in Torrevieja so if you end up anywhere within @ 30 kms, we can highly recommend her.

Was it all worth it? Oh yes!
