My hubby Wayne has stage 3 cancer and has just finished his last round of chemo before has to go for a stem cell transplant. So his wish is to come to Spain for a week. But he has to have injections every day and we would like to know where we can dispose the syringes. Thank you

Our medical centre has a sharps box on the counter for putting them in. I should imagine most health centres do the same.

In Spain, used syringes (sharps) and other medical waste should be returned to participating pharmacies for safe disposal. These pharmacies are part of the Punto SIGRE system, which provides a network for the collection and proper handling of medical waste.

They won’t be coming from a pharmacy here. We are bringing them from the UK. Thank you

It doesn't matter where they are coming from as long as you dispose of them in the right and proper manner. The text stats 'in Spain' not bought in Spain. Pharmacies will not turn you away but direct to the receptacle if it is not clearly visible. If it were the case of not bought in Spain the health centres could refuse disposal also.

It specifically states that this scheme does not take needles.

I've no idea if pharmacies take needles outside of that scheme but they do not as part of it.

I'd imagine the solution identified by Marcliff is the simplest and easiest (assuming the individual is within close proximity to a health centre). I'd imagine there is likely similar disposal facilities somewhere in the hospitals but I've never had reason to use either so don't know for definite.

In respect of the OP, best of luck for your husband's future treatment and I hope you both enjoy your break in Spain.

Thank you John  that’s what I’m worried about if the pharmacy wouldn’t accept them as they are from the UK. We would always make sure they were disposed of in the proper manner for safety reasons. So I thought I would check incase someone has had this for them before. Thank you for taking the time to reply and for the in
