Our community pool needs the tiles lifting and new bedding. Is there anybody out there that has had similar work done? Any advice or recommendations would be very helpful. Thanks

Try asking John Cox, although you may be outside his area. It's the sort of job he does in winter when he isn't as busy doing pool maintenance.

Thank you, Jim. I think it's a job for a large contractor though. Our pool maintenance man suspects that it is the layer of concrete which may not be deep enough, so this may need topping up. Missing tiles were replaced 18 months ago, but straight after the work was done others started coming off. The pool is nearly 20 years old.

Hi Sheila, I know I've not seen it, but I have my doubts about what your pool man says. If it was too thin concrete, then I'd guess you'd probably have been experiencing fairly drastic water loss.

I can think of another scenario. If the tiles haven't been re-grouted every few years, then water could be penetrating between them, and that water along with the pool chemicals could have weakened the concrete to the point where tiles fall off. That view would be supported if the tiles that fall off still have tile adhesive attached to them, possibly along with a bit of concrete.

I agree that it will be a major job, and not a cheap one unless the problem is just in one area. If it's all over the pool, then that would make my scenario a bit more likely.

You could still ask John, and if he's not able to help then he might know of someone who could.

Hi Jim, that is certainly food for thought. The tiles that come off are indeed covered with their adhesive, which crumbles when touched. I have doubts as to whether the pool has ever been fully re-grouted. I have only been here 3 years. It looks like I will be voted president in April, so I am anxious to get some answers. I will contact John and ask his opinion. Thanks for your input.

Hi Jim, I have now got 6 quotes for the complete re-tile of the community pool and also for just the floor. Four of them use resin for the base, Kerakoll or Sikas, the other two concrete. The resin seems the best option to me, but what do I know? Can I have your thoughts on this please? Our pool is salt water and maintenance is very good. Most companies say a 5 year guarantee, but one of them gives just 4 years. He says that is what he honestly believes. Thanks.

Sorry, Sheila, but I've no idea on this one. I suggest you ask Geoff, as he spent years maintaining pools, many of them community:
