Hi,  I would really appreciate people's views or experiences if they have used Securitas Direct company in the Playa Flamenca area.

We are considering a two year contract with them for security sensors, camera's etc  but Trustpilot reviews from 2021/22 are not great eg contracts v. difficult to cancel, poor after sales service  and so on. The monthly contract fee is 50e+ so would really appreciate any feedback on using the company,  if those reviews are out of date.  Any other recommendations of alternative home security firms would also be greatly appreciated. Many thanks

First of all a security system should be there to keep people out.

The type of companies that you are looking at, pride themselves on RENTING cameras that only show when someone is already in your property.

You should have sensors on ALL doors and windows but these companies really screw you if you want to add extra devices AND it means that you are in reality renting these devices and paying through the nose for them.

Also remember that these companies operate their systems through WiFi, so your internet must be on at all time, at the additional cost to you.

There is an alarm company/shop on Calle Ramon Gallud, just a few doors up from Hotel Fontana. They are well worth a visit to discuss your particular situation, rather than a hard sell from these other companies

I simply bought and installed cameras (they are wireless and so rely on the internet connection). They have a microSD card which records things and I can access this via an app on my phone.

I can also set it such that I get a notification on my phone whenever they were triggered (the novelty of the feature soon wears off!).

They each have their own battery and a mini-solar panel that re-charges them. If I want, I can remotely turn on the lights they have on them or speak from the cameras too.

There is no need for a annual subscription and the cost of 1 camera and the SD card was less than 70 Euros IIRC.

Obviously, someone if they break in could turn off the Wifi etc but if you get notifications then you would be able to see that it was happening and report it before they were able (unless they turned the power off to the property which I guess they could do if they genuinely were desperate to break in).

I mention this purely because that has been my solution given I'm too tight to pay an annual subscription to an alarm company/Ring doorbell etc.

EDITED just to add: the quality of the videos/stills really impressed me. I genuinely didn't think they'd be as good as they were for the price they were. And the motion sensor stuff is set to humans - so it doesn't go off for cats etc and you can adjust the sensitivity too.

Many thanks George for your  reply. I have a question- could your cameras be jammed by potential burglars as they use the SD card? Only ask because that issue came up in discussion. We also want to avoid expensive monthly fees if there's a better way.

Jamming is not the worry with SD card but because the card is actually in the camera, it can be taken taken out if accessible to the burglar.

Once again better to keep them out in the first place

Hi Tony, many thanks for your detailed response. The alarm shop you mention is Torrevieja -is that right? Will explore.

Many thanks again.

Yes, about 4 doors up from main city-centre bus stop

I have the same as George55 but I pay £60 / year to back up the video footage to a cloud as well as an SD card. £5 / month isn’t a lot for extra piece of mind.

We have securitas direct. We also have our own solar cameras outside. One thing I will say about securitas. We have a dog that suffers from separation anxiety. We did have to leave her home alone when we renewed our TIE. We partially armed the alarm and received a call from Securitas as she was jumping up at the door and setting off the door sensor. There are also 2 still cameras in the property that we can access to check, but we also have our own cameras inside too. An alarm (any) is a deterrent not a guarantee. The difference is if securitas ring us they can contact the police for us.
