We purchased a small 2 bed apartment on 27th June 2017 in Playa Flamenca.  The agents signed us up to Iberdrola for Electricity.  We stayed in the place for 7 days and so far they have taken 2 payments from our bank account, Euros 28.19 on 5th July and 40.56 on 20th July. We don't have the paperwork and will not return to Spain until October.  Could someone advise if this looks okay as I think it's a lot given that the only thing on in the place is a Fridge/Freezer.

There probably was a fee for setting up the contract and then there is a monthly standing charge. Go onto their website and register to use their Virtual Office where you can carry out transaction, go paperless to receive your monthly bills Online, monitor your account and can discuss with them your concerns or other matters. This will enable to keep an eye on your account when back in the U.K. and I would you do the same for your water company.

Thank you very much I will do that. I was on their website but unfortunately the agent didn't give us the paperwork for the takeover of the account from previous owners so I dont have any account number but will try to get hold of it.

If you've got online access to your bank account, you should be able to look at your direct debits and find your Iberdrola contract number there.

I have got hold of electricity company in 2016 over similar account problems, they informed me they have moved alot of accounts to monthly payments rather than quarterly.

hi there is a tab in the La Zenia forum on electricity charges which has been invaluable- am going to Iberadola to change tariff and maximum wattage and hoping to halve my bills based on advice here - well worth a look!

Hi

Wasnt aware that i could change the kilowatt which will reduce the standing charge-would have been worried to do this but was reassured by the comments that the electricity wouldnt trip too much if at all. Also, night time plan seemed a good option for me as most of our electric is used during these hours.
