 live in Ireland have done for 35 years but I still have an English passport will the brexit rules  still apply to me

I think your still classed as a British citizens as you wasn't born in Ireland.

Yes, I think they will apply to you too.

Yes. 

You are a British citizen and no number of years living in Ireland changes that.

You may be entitled to apply for Irish citizenship through naturalisation as you have lived there for so long.

True however not sure how it would work in practice if the if the motive for becoming naturalised Irish was simply in order to leave and become resident in Spain!

You’re right. In fact it does state something about remaining a resident of Ireland in the information. 

The OP doesn’t mention coming to live in Spain. There are other benefits regarding free movement within Schengen etc. Having said that, I’m sure there is no requirement to live in Ireland in perpetuity once someone is naturalised.
