Hi,

We have just bought a new apartment which initially we are using as a holiday home.

Just wondering if others switch appliances off ( fridge / freezer ) if the property isn’t going to be occupied for long periods

Thanks

Neal

Hi Neal,

The short answer is yes. Why pay for something your not using.

We have a holiday home and switch the electric off at the mains when we leave.

We always turn ours off when we are not here for a long period

We clean both compartments and leave the doors open

Hi, Iam sure it’s correct that you turn off and leave doors open etc but I would just like to add that friends of ours done the exact same thing at their holiday home and had to replace three fridges in a five year period! All decent makes and all brand new ones!

In the end they upgraded to top of the range one and now leave it on 24/7 etc and have had no trouble with it👍🏻  It may have something to do with turning it on/off etc or may just have been bad luck?

Good luck with your new home and enjoy Spain😎👍🏻

Hi

Thanks for your reply .

It just seems pointless paying for electricity for a couple of months when we are back on the UK, especially when it’s empty

We were advised by the supplier that it isn’t good to switch it on and off

I guess we will have to toss  a coin 😇

Hi Neal I’ve had the same fridge freezer since 2006 and I turn it off every time I leave my apartment. There’s so much to think about when you first buy your holiday home, if there’s one piece of advice that I can give you (assuming that you haven’t already thought about it) turn your water off at the mains tap that is usually outside your property. I also turn the main stop tap off in my apartment.

Enjoy your time in Spain.

Regards

Anne
