After much deliberation, we just couldn't decide between 2 areas the decision has been made and we have decided it has to be Punta Prima. It just has everything we want. It is such a relief to have finally decided lol. So as I think I might have mentioned before we have the flights and car hire booked for 7-14 March, combining a trip over with my birthday, so need to get accommodation sorted. Anyone recommend somewhere in or very close to Punta Prima please ?

Also just wondering who you guys used for your estate agents ???

We have a lawyer in place.

Also any areas we should be looking to buy or avoid ????

Thanks, we went to A Place in the Sun too at the secc in Glbut we had limited time spoke to a couple of estate agents, not the one you have mentioned, but weren't impressed and others had big queues so couldn't wait as had to get back to Edinburgh to work, thanks for the advice, really need to get accommodation sorted thanks x

Go on holiday  lettings and do a search. Get yourself a private rental from the site. You can then book something in the area your looking to buy in and get a better feel.

Agents are a nightmare. Make sure you go with an agent and not a finder. So avoid ES Prop Services and Girasol.

We didn't bother going with a specific agent, we just searched Rightmove. Made a shortlist of the ones we liked and organised viewings for our shortlist. Agents will want to " take over" and arrange other viewings resist this if you can as they will only take you see properties you will already have seen on Rightmove. If you see something you like the agent will want to take a 3000e deposit. Refuse and say you will manage any deposit with the solicitors

Thanks for this, we have been searching via Rightmove more than anything else tbh and wondered if we should just contact the agent advertising a specific property we are interested in if you know what I mean. It seems a bit of a minefield.

Yeah we are looking at both , like the look of Punta Prima but if we found a house we liked in Playa Flamenca that would be just as good really, ether or tbh but def one of them.

Yes that is exactly what we did. Develop a short list  of about 10. Then contact the agents to arrange the viewing. Spanish agents are buggers for advertising properties which are sold or under offer. So your short list may reduce.

Agents will say we have properties which are not advertised to tempt you into letting them do the searching. This is nonsense almost every property for sale is on Rightmove. Why wouldn't it be?

When buying in the UK you wouldn't go into Reeds Rains and ask them to drive you around looking at properties. You would do your own research find the properties you like the look of and arrange viewings. Adopt the same approach and keep the agents at arms length..

Also if you find a property don't take any advice at all from the agent in terms of banks, lawyers and NIE. This is another area where you would probably get stung. And as said earlier don't give them a penny. They will push for 3000e say no the lawyers will sort it.

Thanks for all the advice as we really appreciate the help. We have a lawyer arranged so he has arranged bank accounts, nie etc. So do you reckon if we keep searching Rightmove and then contact the estate agent concerned  just in terms of viewingetc that's best way to go ???

Deffo. I would start building a short list around Xmas and check on a regular basis as some may sell and new ones may be added. then about two weeks before you go contact the agents to arrange the viewings. Be prepared though as some may have sold but agents leave them advertised to lure you in. Also if your paying cash keep an eye on the euro and make contact with a currency broker. As you ideally want the Euros before you place a bid. That way if the £ collapses your property won't go up because of the rate. Loads of people get stung on the fluctuations on the exchange rate
