Came over this week to find two letters from suma and two notices to pick up letters from the post office, they gave us a week to pick up the letters or they were sent back, they were sent back due to us being in the uk, went to suma office this afternoon and showed them the letters which the guy behind the desk said they were capital gains tax we have to pay as sellers were not residents, the bills were just under 200 Euros each, is this normal practice, cheers

Yes, you probably had it explained to you by your solicitor when he explained all the charges to you. But as the tax can take up to 12 months to process, most people tend to forget about it.

It's explained here https://bravolegal.es/plusvalia-capital-gains-tax-spain/

"the buyer of your property will always be obliged to retain 3% of the sale price, and pay that amount to the Tax Office"

The money for this will have been retained by your solicitor. it may be worthwhile contacting him to make sure that this was deducted from your payment to the seller.
