Yes, I have been with BBVA for quite a while (we have a branch in the village here but use the online version to avoid charges). Should any problems arise which need face to face contact, one can (freely) use the branch personnel.

For transfers, bill paying, etc, there is a very small charge made if making an immediate transfer, but such events are easily avoided! Otherwise no charges, nor are there any requirements for input (other than to keep the account live, of course). Beware that should a need arise for a second banks card, a substantial charge is made.

Setting up the account is comparatively easy, if, in the way of Spanish things, copious. There is also the facility to transfer all data etc from the "leaving" bank account to BBVA, at no charge.

We opened an online BBVA account recently. Straightforward to do. Only issue we had was that we each needed a different spanish mobile number for a joint account - we still use our Uk mobiles, and have 1 Spanish phone for things that need a Spanish number. This can be changed as soon as the account is activated, so we bought a €10 sim, then changed the numbers to our Uk mobiles once we were set up. Other than that minor inconvenience, it all seems fine.

Does anyone know if Spanish Social Security accept this on-line account. It's for my Spanish pension. TIA

Hi I am with sabadel and as a non resident paying fees for the privilege, I would need all my direct debits paid for our villa paid and possibly a card to draw cash occasionally, this BBBV online account sounds ideal, do you see any short comings to to my needs.

Cheers bre

Not really. They do all the switching for you, and you get debit cards - we were with Sabadell. We only had one Spanish mobile, and needed one each to set the account up. We were going to ‘borrow’ a friend’s number, but ended up deciding to buy a €10 HITS sim. Once the account was open, we popped into a local branch to activate the account and changed our phone numbers to our Uk mobiles, while we were there.

We’re glad we made the change. Sabadell just seemed to make a meal out of everything, and their charges were ridiculous.

The BBVA has a tranfer service, so all companies will be informed.
